Best NRFI Bets Today (09/20/2023)
Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland A’s NRFI (-115, BetMGM)
The Seattle Mariners are far and away the better team in this matchup, and they have an even bigger edge in this game, as Oakland will send out Joey Estes for his first career big league start. Betting on a pitcher making his major league debut to shut down the top of one of baseball’s hottest lineups is scary, but Estes has been very sharp in the minors this season.
In 27 appearances at AAA this season, Estes had a 3.74 ERA, and while the long ball became a problem, he also struck out 131 batters in 137.0 IP. Seattle is one of the hottest teams in baseball, but Estes does have great swing-and-miss stuff, and with very little tape of him, it may take the Mariners a bit to catch up to his game.
Seattle is sending out George Kirby tonight, and while he is due for some minor regression, he is still striking guys out at a high clip, and Kirby has the pleasure of facing one of the worst lineups in baseball.
Oakland is ranked last in all of baseball in runs, RBI, BA, SLG, and wOBA. While Oakland is ranked inside the top 15 in games with a run scored in the first inning, most of that is due to their awful pitching staff. However, we will bet on the rookie to have a clean first career inning and for Kirby to set down the top of Oakland’s woeful offense.
San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks NRFI (-140, BetMGM)
This crucial NL West showdown is one of the top games on the schedule today. Not only are both teams in the middle of the NL Wild Card race, but we have an excellent starting pitching matchup that should help us cash an NRFI prop ticket.
San Francisco will have Logan Webb on the mound to start, and he enters this game with a 3.31 ERA and is sitting on a career-best BB/9 (1.30). While he is giving up more barrels than usual, Webb has a 0.90 HR/9 and a 23.2% K%. He has not been as effective over his last few starts, but Webb still produces outs, which is all we need against a struggling Diamondbacks lineup.
Arizona will have one of its best arms on the bump tonight in Merrill Kelly, which is a significant advantage. The Giants score most of their runs via the home run, and Kelly has been avoiding barrels and limiting hard contact this season.
Although Kelly has dealt with some bad luck this year, he is putting up one of the best campaigns of his career and should be able to handle an inconsistent Giants’ lineup.
