The Yankees open the 2022 season on Thursday, April 7, against the hated Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. The Bronx Bombers are one of the favorites to contend for the pennant, and several players are projected to have big seasons.

Yankees Season Wins Total Bets

Last year the Yanks won 92 games and advanced to the playoffs as a wild card. The oddsmakers have them at around 91.5 wins (BetRivers, for example). That figure is right where they should be. Yes, the Yanks are a perennial contender, but their pitching staff is not as deep as in recent seasons, and a loss of 4-8 wins off their ’21 total wouldn’t be a shock.

Division, Pennant, World Series Odds For Yankees

BetRivers is one of the few sportsbooks that have “Make The Playoffs” odds available. For the Yankees it’s +250 on NO. The Yankees finished in third place in their division, and four teams in the AL East won 90+ games last year. While Bronx fans would be nonplussed, the Yanks missing the playoffs isn’t farfetched, and a $50 wager on them not to make it isn’t a bad way to start the 2022 MLB betting season.

According to BetMGM, the Yankees are +550 to win the AL pennant, tying them with the White Sox behind only the Astros at +475. The same book lists NY at +230 to capture the AL East. Remember, the Rays won 100 games last year, and they will be good again.

Caesars has the Yankees at +1100 to win the World Series. They like the Blue Jays more from the AL East.

TIP: It’s worth it to find the longest odds on the Yankees to win the World Series and bet $100 on them. Even with their deficiencies (starting pitching and defense), the Yanks usually improve their team at the trade deadline. A rent-a-player could make this team a tough out if they get into the playoffs.

Yankees Player Futures Bets

American League MVP Award Winner

The last Yankee to win the league MVP was Alex Rodriguez in 2007. The last one to win it without cheating was Don Mattingly in 1985. Not a lot of Yankees have won the MVP in recent decades, though current players Aaron Judge and DJ. LeMahieu both finished in the top four for the award twice in the last five seasons.

These Yankees have odds for MVP for ’22 from Caesars Sportsbook:

  • Aaron Judge +2000
  • Gerrit Cole +5000
  • Giancarlo Stanton +5000
  • Josh Donaldson +10000
  • DJ LeMahieu +10000
  • Gleyber Torres +10000
  • Joey Gallo +15000

Let’s face it, Stanton would get injured reading this article, so don’t ever, ever bet on that guy. Unless it’s +10000 that he’ll break a bone in his body in a calendar year.

TIP: The voters like Judge, and if the big guy stays healthy, he’s good for 45+ bombs, so he’s the best bet in this category, and that’s a nice payout on a $100 bet. However, I don’t think Judge is a good pick in ’22 with others like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Rafael Devers, and Wander Franco in the mix.

American League Cy Young Award Winner

The last Yankee pitcher to cop this award was Roger Clemens in 2001. The last to win it without cheating was Ron Guidry, who went 25-3 way back in 1978. It takes pitchers two years to win 25 games these days. Grumble, grumble, old man noises, grouch, grouch…

  • Gerrit Cole +400 (BetMGM Sportsbook)
  • Luis Severino +4000 (BetMGM)

Cole has finished in the top five in CY voting in each of the last four seasons. That’s why he has Elon Musk money, and why he’s also the favorite to win the award.

TIP: Cole is +800 at BetMGM to lead MLB in wins. That almost seems like a mistake. Unless he gets hurt, Cole is good for 15 wins with that lineup supporting him. Heck, I would win five games, and I can’t throw over 65 MPH. A winning $50 bet on this would return $400.

Player Futures For 2022 Yankees

  1. Bet on the Yanks to win the World Series, because this time around books are giving pretty good odds (more than +1000 in all cases).
  2. Hop on Cole to lead MLB in wins at +800 from BetMGM.
  3. If you must bet on a Yankee to win the MVP, make it Judge, whom you can grab at +2000 from Caesars Sportsbook.
  4. As always, Cole is a top contender for Cy Young, but no Yankee has won the award in more than two decades. Still, a $50 winning bet (BetMGM) would return +200, which is enough for two to eat at a nice restaurant in Manhattan.
