As we slowly approach the March Madness NCAA tournament, the Big 10 basketball odds will only get tighter, especially with the conference turning into a one-horse race.
Currently, the Purdue Boilermakers, the No. 1 team in the country, are heavy favorites to win the Big 10 regular season title, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Indiana is behind them at 20/1 to win the conference. There is still time for the other teams to catch up, but from the start of the season, Purdue has been the best team in the Big 10 and the country.
The Big 10 is traditionally one of the more competitive conferences in college sports because of its deep roster of talented programs. This year, those teams like Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois have not been constant enough and have Purdue as a runaway favorite.

Big 10 Betting Favorites, Regular Season Title
Purdue Boilermakers (21-1, 10-1 conference)
After another big win against Michigan State, Purdue became the first unanimous No. 1 team in the AP Poll this season, and they are on a run of dominating their Big 10 foes. Their only loss on the season came against Rutgers, but since then, they are 8-0, and they are winning those games by an average of 10 points per game.
Most of their success can be attributed to their defense, which ranks ninth in scoring, 20th in effective field goal percentage, and 25th in three-point shooting percentage. Another way Purdue has dominated this season is on the glass, as they are ranked first in total rebounds and defensive rebounds per game, and they are grabbing 6.2 offensive boards per game, which is sixth in the country.

If you have watched Purdue this season, which we advise you to do because they are an outstanding team, you know that a lot of their success on both sides of the court comes from their star center, Zach Edey. If you need help finding him on the court, just look for the 7’4″, 295-pound center.
Edey is in his junior season, and although he has been really solid for Purdue in his first two seasons on campus, he has taken a massive step this season, averaging 22.1 points, 13 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game on 61.2% shooting. Luckily, he is surrounded by a very strong shooting core that allows Purdue to be dangerous from deep and from inside.
They are not a high-scoring offense, but when they get in a rhythm, they are hard to defend. Based on how they have run through their schedule so far, the Boilermakers are going to make a lot of noise in March.
Indiana Hoosiers (15-6, 6-4 conference)
The Hoosiers started the season hot, and after taking down North Carolina earlier in the season, things were looking up for a program that is starving to get back to the top of the sport.
However, Indiana immediately lost to Rutgers after beating the Tarheels, and since that game, they are 8-6, with four conference losses that have them slightly behind Northwestern for second place in the Big 10. Both teams are still far from catching Purdue, and Indiana is going on a three-game conference losing streak to some second or third-tier programs (Iowa, Northwestern, Penn State).
Luckily, the path to a conference title still exists, as they have to play Purdue twice, and they will have a chance to avenge their loss to Northwestern and jump them in the standings.
Indiana will need to get better on the defensive side of the ball, but offensively, they are as dangerous as anyone, and their run to the Sweet 16 last season proved that. They are ranked 26th in scoring, 18th in scoring margin, 10th in effective field goal percentage, and fourth in shooting percentage. Most of this is due to star player Trayce Jackson-Davis, who leads the team in scoring with 19.6 points per game and is pulling in 10.7 rebounds per game.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights (14-7, 6-4 conference)
Rutgers is part of a three-way tie for third place in the Big 10 with Indiana and Illinois, and although they have lost three out of their last six conference games, they still can make a lot of noise the rest of the season. With a win over Purdue, this team has proved that they can go toe-to-toe with anyone.
However, they are starting to show signs of regression, with losses to Michigan State and Iowa twice in their last six games, so Rutgers has to climb back up. Their offense is pretty bad, but defensively, they are as good as anyone in the country. They rank fifth in scoring, 13th in scoring margin, ninth in effective field goal percentage, fourth in shooting percentage, and 10th in made field goals per game.

Big 10 Sleeper Pick, Regular Season Title
Illinois Fighting Illini (15-6, 6-4 conference)
It is hard to find a sleeper in this conference because of the lead Purdue has created, but the Illini have been one of the premier programs in the Big 10 in the Steve Schweer era. They were co-champions last season with Wisconsin, their first since 2005, and they are coming off two-straight tournament appearances, which broke a seven-year drought.
Illinois is only 3.5 games back, but so are Rutgers, Indiana, and Northwestern. There are some obstacles in the way, but Illinois has the luxury of ending the season against Purdue, which may or may not mean anything at that point, but the Illini should not be counted out.
They have been inconsistent, but with big wins against UCLA and Texas, this team has a shot at climbing back up the rankings and taking back first place in the conference.
