It’s late August and we will find ourselves sitting in our favorite bar and grill watching all the football games while having a few drinks and grabbing some food. I’m going to hit as many sports bars around town as I can and pass along what food I have tried and liked. If that bar has a team affiliation, you will know where to hang out with other fans of your favorite team.

This week we went to Stake Out Bar & Grill located at 4800 S. Maryland Parkway. If you are a Buffalo Bills fan this is your spot for Sunday NFL action. Now, being a Bills bar you would think the one item they would be known for would be Buffalo wings. Well, on this visit I didn’t have the wings.

Don’t worry, I’m not sick, just on a mission as I heard you have to try their Philly Cheesesteak. Yes, I said cheesesteak, and it’s not a Philadelphia Bar. I have heard from several people that the cheesesteak here is legit so I had to find out for myself.

I ordered mine with mushrooms, onions, green peppers and, of course, cheese. I have got to tell you, we have some good cheesesteak places in Las Vegas and this one was as good as any I have had here. You get a huge cheesesteak served with your choice of potato salad, cole slaw or fries. The meat they use is very tasty and they didn’t skimp on the amount.

I’ve said it 100’s of times in my articles – the bun can make or break the sandwich. This roll put the cheesesteak over the top for me. I will point out that the cheese they use is not Cheez Whiz, which for many might be a deal breaker. The true Philly Cheesesteaks from South Philly are made with Cheez Wiz. Personally, I’m not a Cheez Whiz guy so using Provolone or a White American works just fine for me and is my preferred way of ordering given the choice. Bottom line: I absolutely loved it.

Stake Out Bar & Grill is right by UNLV so it’s a great place to grab a bite before or after a game at the Thomas & Mack. They have daily specials served from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Monday it’s Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes for $6.59. Tuesday is Taco Tuesday; you get two tacos for $1.99. Wednesday is Spaghetti and Meatballs for $5.49. Thursday it’s Chicken Fried Steak and mashed potatoes for $6.29. Friday it’s Buffalo Style Fish and Chips for $7.49. Sunday’s special is All You Can Eat Spaghetti and Meatballs with Garlic Toast for $8.79.

The portions were good size and the prices are very reasonable. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I give Stake Out Bar & Grill a rating of 3.75 forks.
