This week, I traveled to Downtown Las Vegas to have some fun on Fremont Street. It was a Monday, and the Steelers were playing so I wanted to go somewhere I could get some food and watch the game.

I went to Whiskey Licker Up Saloon located inside Binion’s Casino. Whiskey Licker Up is located on the second floor but they have an entrance right off Fremont St. making for easy access. Whiskey Licker Up is a bar, a restaurant and a night club.

Let’s start with the bar, which actually rotates, giving you all the different views of inside the venue and Fremont Street below. If you sit on the outside ledge you get to overlook Fremont Street while you enjoy a few cocktails. It’s one of the best places to people watch as you will see anything and everything. It’s also a great place to watch the shows on the Fremont Street Experience canopy.

Often times when you go to a tourist type venue you often find that the food is mediocre and that it’s just not their priority. But that is not the case here. At Whiskey Licker Up the food is all made from scratch as nothing is frozen in their kitchen.

For my visit I went with Chicken Wings and Fries as it was Monday Night Football and my Steelers were playing. As bad as the Steelers played that night one would think I would have lost my appetite, but the wings were good and the fries were excellent, so I had no problems finishing both.

I was really surprised at how big the menu was as their burgers looked fantastic as the table next to me ordered a couple while another person in their party ordered the chicken tenders, or, as they called them on the menu: “Fresh’n Tender Chicken.” These tenders are fresh-cut chicken breast strips marinated in buttermilk, dredged in seasoned flour and fried golden brown. They serve it with a choice of Ranch dressing, Blue Cheese dressing or Cool Ranch Avocado Dip.

Trust me, I’m a wing man but the chicken tenders looked and smelled really good.

If you are looking for an appetizer to munch on while watching the game, check out a basket of their hand-cut Cheddar BBQ Chips. They take fresh thin-sliced potatoes, fry them crisp and then toss them with their house-made BBQ Cheddar Spice Blend and serve it with Roasted Garlic Chive Dip. These are great while watching a game.

There are TV’s everywhere, so you can watch the game while having good food and some cold adult drinks. In addition to several different burger options, they have a Crispy Buffalo Chicken sandwich that is a marinated breast dredged in seasoned flour, then fried golden brown and tossed in their signature wing sauce with coleslaw and served on a butter-grilled Brioche bun with a slice of Buttermilk Blue Cheese.

Whiskey Licker Up Saloon is a place that you can hang out with friends and just kick back while enjoying all the fun and sights and sounds of the Fremont St. Experience or watching your favorite team play. I give it a rating of 3.75 Forks.
