It’s been a while since we reviewed a burger joint and there is a brand new one at the Venetian that’s been getting a lot of buzz, so I had to check it out.
Black Tap is located next to the sportsbook and poker room. A perfect location for a burger place. What cries burgers and beer better than poker players and guys watching sports? Black Tap is bucking history as they will be the third burger place to try this location. The first two didn’t make it.
Black Tap has a different twist as in addition to their burgers they might be more known for their over-the-top milkshakes. I’ll have more about them later. The wife and I both went with the traditional All American Burger, which was a prime burger that came with lettuce, tomato, pickles, American cheese and their special sauce.
The burger was $16 and included fries. The price may seem high but it’s right in line with all the other gourmet joints on the Strip. The burgers were actually quite good as often times they don’t live up to the hype. I will be back for another soon. As someone who plays a lot of poker and hangs out in sportsbooks this is a perfect location for me.
Black Tap offers nine different gourmet burgers on the menu including the Texan. It is a Prime Burger with Cheddar cheese, crispy onion ring, bacon and sweet baby Ray’s BBQ sauce. The Californian is an all-natural turkey burger with avocado, Swiss cheese and truffle mayo. If you want to eat a little healthier they have a bunch of different salads as well. One of the side dishes they offer is Teriyaki Broccoli. It looked good and smelled even better. They cook the broccoli with ginger, garlic sauce, sesame and scallions. I definitely will order this side dish next time.
If you like craft beers they have a wide selection and list the alcohol content of each. You can catch a good buzz pretty quick with some of the higher alcohol beers. The real star of the show was their signature milkshakes. I know a lot of people like to have their milkshake with their burger but that has never been me, I like my milkshake afterward, more as a dessert. I highly recommend you doing it that way because these milkshakes are truly a dessert. They do have regular milkshakes but these are almost like another meal. It was phenomenal. They call their signature shakes Crazy Shakes and believe me they were crazy.
We ordered the Cookies ‘N Cream Supreme Oreo Shake. They take the rim of the glass and roll it in vanilla frosting with crushed Oreos topped with a cookies and cream ice cream sandwich, whipped cream and chocolate drizzle all on top of the milkshake in the glass. There is a Cake Batter Shake complete with a full slice of cake on top of the milkshake. They are huge but so good.
There are eight different Crazy Shake flavors in addition to nine different classic flavors to choose from. The presentation alone of the Crazy Shakes is worth it, and I guarantee you will be posting a picture of it on Facebook and Instagram as they are definitely picture worthy and will have your friends jealous.
The food was great and the portions were huge. The vibe of Black Tap was cool and very hip. This isn’t your typical burger place as it’s more of an event than just a burger and a shake. I give Black Tap Craft Burger & Beer 3.75 Forks out of 4.
