Las Vegas has a lot of great Mexican restaurants and I realized I haven’t written about any yet so here is a long overdue article.
The wife and I went to Bonito Michoacan (3715 S. Decatur Blvd.) on a Monday night around 6 and the place was packed. We had never been here before but it’s always a good sign to pull into a restaurant parking lot that is filled with cars.
As with almost every Mexican restaurant the waiter asked for our drink orders and brought us complimentary chips and salsa. The difference here that my wife really liked is they also bring you refried beans in addition to the salsa. A nice touch.
My wife went with the Cheese Enchiladas with the red sauce, Spanish rice and refried beans for her dinner. This is a simple dish but very good and one of Lori’s favorites. She wasn’t disappointed.
For me I ordered the Fajitas combo with Steak, Chicken and Shrimp.
Part of the fun of ordering Fajitas is that sizzling platter you can hear coming as soon as the waiter exits the kitchen. It’s a sizzling iron platter on a very hot plate. The serving size was huge as I made several fajitas and ran out of tortillas. No problem – my waiter quickly brought me more tortillas.
There was so much meat, chicken and shrimp I actually took some home and had it for lunch the next day. I could have finished it but made sure to leave room for dessert. Before our meals came they brought us both a cup of complimentary soup. The waiter said it was chicken soup but I like to refer to it as Mexican Ramen. The soup was very tasty, so much so I would order it next time even if it weren’t complimentary.
When it comes to dessert at a Mexican restaurant I order the same thing almost every time. In fact I usually check out menus before I go to a new place I haven’t been to before. If they don’t have Fried Ice Cream I’m looking at another place to go to.
I’m happy to report Bonito Michoacan’s Fried Ice Cream was excellent and my only regret was we ordered one and split it. Next time we each get our own.
Bonito Michoacan provided great food at a reasonable price. And, as good as the food was I have to say the service was even better. I say this because the place was jam-packed and we were never looking for our waiter. Our drinks never hit the bottom of the glass as he was there with refills before we were even empty.
Both our waiter and the floor manager stopped at our table several times during our meal just to see if we needed anything and if everything was good.
Again, considering how busy they were the service was very impressive.
If you are craving some great Mexican food I highly recommend Bonito Michoacan. I give them 3.75 Forks.
