With $2,000 on the line, the Bookies Battle playoff title is down to two competitors, as the co-leaders are on different sides in Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Max Schmerin (Rivers Casino Pittsburgh) and Socrates Cherry III (Aliante Casino) have each rolled to 8-4 records during this postseason. Max is on Chiefs +1.5, while Socrates is laying the points with the Eagles.

Both players have already cashed in this contest recently. Max took home $3,000 for last year’s regular-season title, and Socrates earned his way into this season’s playoffs by winning the third-quarter mini-contest for $500.

Three players are just a game back in the playoff standings with seven winners apiece — Casey Lewless (Margaritaville Bossier City), John Lindheimer (Harrah’s Hoosier Park), and Kalen Carlisle (Wynn) – and needed Schmerin and Cherry to have made different Super Bowl picks to have had a chance to catch them.

Bookies Battle Picks for Super Bowl 57

Among the playoff contestants, seven are on Sunday’s underdog, with just three on Eagles -1.5. Two players, too far back in the standings to catch up, passed on making a pick for the contest.

Consensus picks are 7-5 in these playoffs, after a 139-122-10 regular season for Bookies Battle.

In the Bookmaker Spotlight

Our last Bookmaker Spotlight of the NFL season is a doozy, as Gaming Today’s Bob Christ caught up with Jay Kornegay, VP at the SuperBook.

Jay discusses the lure of longshots to public Super Bowl props bettors, how his shop must vary their prop offerings based on state regulations, and an unreasonable customer who insisted Jay must have called Mike Shanahan during Super Bowl 33.
