NFL fans’ first Saturday of games this year features a strong tripleheader, as all six teams in action are still alive in the AFC and NFC playoff picture. Saturday night’s game between the Broncos and Lions at 8:15 p.m. Eastern on NFL Network pits one of the hottest teams in the league, Denver, against Dan Campbell and the Lions, who are seeking their first playoff appearance since 2016.

The Broncos have won six of their last seven games, while Detroit is coming off losses in two of its last three.

A loss for Denver would put Russell Wilson and Co. a game behind in the wildcard race, but the Broncos’ favorable remaining schedule — they play the Patriots, Chargers, and Raiders the rest of the way — should allow them to stay in the mix. Detroit has a two-game lead in the NFC North, but a third loss in four games would raise questions about what this team can do in the playoffs.

Broncos vs Lions Analysis and Prediction

The Lions have managed to win three of their last five games, but dating back to their win over the Chargers on Nov. 12, Detroit’s defense has not been good enough over that stretch.

Last Sunday, Chicago became the latest team to exploit the Lions’ D, as Justin Fields and the Bears upset Detroit 28-13 on a rough day for Jared Goff (20-for-35, 161 yards, 1 TD, 2 interceptions) and his team, who turned the ball over three times. Detroit has now had at least three turnovers in three of its last four games.

The Lions will have to avoid the turnovers and be better defensively this week against the Broncos, who have leaned on their defense and running game throughout their remarkable turnaround after their 1-5 start to the season.

Expect a low-scoring game. While it’s not a good idea to bet against the Lions in front of what should be an excellent home crowd, don’t be surprised if the Broncos keep this one close.

Pick: Under , Broncos
