Week 2 of the NFL preseason kicks off with the Cleveland Browns taking on the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night. The star players from each team will probably be absent from this matchup, but sportsbooks are dealing Browns vs. Eagles odds and props for those looking to place a football bet, and we’re here to offer our prediction.
As of Thursday morning, the Eagles are priced between 3.5- and 4-point favorites, with the total sitting at 37.5 on most NFL odds boards.

Here are the Browns vs. Eagles odds from the top US sports betting apps.
These teams have been running joint practices all week, and we are not likely to see many starters from either side. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has stated his starters will not play in this preseason showdown.
Cleveland turns to rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson to get the start over the more experienced Kellen Mond. Through two preseason games, Thompson-Robinson has completed 17 out of 21 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He also has showcased his incredible athleticism with a couple of nice rushes.

As of this Thursday morning post, there is no word if the Eagles will play their starters in this game, but even if they do, fans should not expect to see much from star players like Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith. None of Philadelphia’s starters played in the Week 1 loss to the Ravens, and with how chippy some of these combined practices have been, there is no reason to play in this game, either.
Still, the Browns vs. Eagles spread favors Philadelphia because it is a much deeper team, especially on offense. The running back room is filled with experience with guys like D’Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny. They also have a better and more experienced quarterback room, with Marcus Mariota likely getting the start in this matchup.
Both offenses have shown some promise this preseason, which is why the Browns vs. Eagles total may be attractive to bettors. The Over has cashed in a combined two out of three games between Cleveland and Philadelphia this preseason, and with two dynamic offenses, this could be a great game to kick off Week 2 of the NFL preseason.
Browns vs. Eagles Betting News & Trends
Despite the Eagles’ success from last season, and overall projections heading into 2023, head coach Nick Sirianni has not won many preseason games. He is now 1-5 SU in the preseason, while Stefanski has a 5-3 preseason record, including a perfect 3-0 mark in his first season.
Betting trends do not tell the whole story, especially in the preseason. However, Browns vs. Eagles betting trends heavily support the underdog in this matchup. Not only are preseason underdogs hitting at an insane clip over the last few seasons, but Siriani has covered the spread only once in his six preseason games.
Browns vs. Eagles odds lean in Philadelphia’s favor, but a deeper look at preseason betting trends tells a different story.
- Kevin Stefanski is 5-2-1 ATS in his eight career preseason games.
- Nick Sirianni is 1-4-1 ATS in his six career preseason games.
- The Browns are 7-0-1 ATS in their last eight preseason games when playing as the underdog.
- The Eagles are 0-5-1 ATS in their last six preseason games when playing as the favorite.
Browns vs. Eagles Prediction
It is becoming increasingly evident that backing the underdog is the way to go when placing a preseason bet. Underdogs were covering at a 54% clip over the last three seasons. Entering this week, underdogs have covered 58% of games and are 9-8 SU this preseason. The Over has also been highly profitable this year, with an 11-5-1 record.
We will stick with these trends for our Browns vs. Eagles prediction and take the underdog and the Over. Both teams run similar styles of offense, and the Browns have decided to spread things out this season, playing into Deshaun Watson‘s strengths. Not only does this benefit Watson and a talented receiver room, but Thompson-Robinson’s skills also translate to this offense, which has helped him thrive so far this preseason
Thompson-Robinson is still not a “great thrower” but is athletic enough to make plays on his own. The Eagles also run the spread with an athletic quarterback, and while Mariotta has a lot more experience playing in the NFL, he is entering his eighth system in nine seasons.
Both teams are in similar spots, but the Eagles have the pedigree of being a winning team. However, for our Browns vs. Eagles pick, we will back Cleveland to cover the spread and for this game to go Over the total. Cleveland’s defense has been much improved over the last two seasons, and the offense is deeper at every position and has performed well this postseason.
The underdog trend in the preseason has treated bettors kindly, and we will keep riding it until the wheels fall off.
