Though the chances of anyone other than Houston QB CJ Stroud winning the award are nearly nonexistent at this point, it’s still possible to bet on a number of other players in the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year race, including Panthers QB Bryce Young.

Young has endured a tough start to his career for an anemic Panthers’ offense, and he’s currently to win the award. Stroud has been heavily favored for weeks, with his strong performances in his team’s wins against the Buccaneers on Nov. 5 and the Bengals on Nov. 12 making this the former Buckeyes’ race to lose over the second half of the season.

Though Young is not a contender to win Rookie of the Year, he does have a solid chance to lead the league in passing yards by a rookie.

Bryce Young Odds To Lead NFL in Rookie Passing Yards

A look at the stats for both players makes it hard to believe that as of Dec. 13, Young is the slight favorite ahead of Stroud for the lead in passing yardage among rookies. Stroud has thrown for the second-most yards in the league (3,631), behind only Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa. Young (2,192) has a ton of ground to make up, but oddsmakers have him as the slight favorite after Stroud suffered a concussion in the Texans’ Week 14 loss to the Jets.

Houston has yet to indicate whether Stroud will play this weekend, but the fact that Young is the slight favorite despite needing to make up a difference of 1,439 yards is a sign Stroud may miss at least a game. The Texans’ next opponent is Tennessee, and with a record of 7-6, Houston does not have much margin for error in the playoff race.

If Stroud does not play another game this year and Young averages 360 yards per game over the Panthers’ final four games, he would overtake Stroud. But given that Young has thrown for less than 200 yards in each of his last six games, it’s tough to imagine Young closing the gap, even if Stroud misses time.
