UFC 287 on PPV: Pereira vs. Adesanya 2 Preview

Pereira (7-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) is the only fighter to ever KO Adesanya (23-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC) in MMA or kickboxing and looks to go 3-0 against him while holding onto his middleweight belt. Pereira was losing 3-1 on all scorecards before upsetting Adesanya on a TKO in the fifth round. Despite Pereira’s recent success, Adesanya enters the octagon as the favorite, according to oddsmakers.

The co-main event features Gilbert Burns (21-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC) in a pivotal welterweight bout against Jorge Masvidal (35-16 MMA, 12-9 UFC). Miami-native Masvidal (+375) has dropped his last three fights and has hinted at this being his last fight — and Burns (-500), off a first-round submission win against Neil Magny, has voiced his desire to send Masvidal straight into retirement.

Preceding the two main events, UFC 287 kicks off Saturday night with bantamweight newcomers Raul Rosas Jr. (-235) and Christian Rodriguez (+185). Youngster Rosas Jr. is looking for his second UFC win in a battle of potential future stars.

In another clash of bantamweights, Adrian Yanez (-190), undefeated in his five UFC fights, looks to hold off veteran Rob Font (+150). Yanez will face a ranked opponent for the first time in his young career.  Font has dropped two-straight fights, but the 35-year-old still boasts one of the sport’s best jabs.

Welterweights Kevin Holland (-265) and Santiago Ponzinibbio (+205) enter Saturday’s fight off opposite trajectories. Holland is coming off two-straight losses, with the most recent being an injury stoppage in the fourth round to Stephen Thompson. In his last time in the octagon, Ponzinibbio knocked out Alex Morono in the third round despite being down on the scorecard.
