Welcome to Calli’s Chiefs Corner. A weekly column by Calli, a KC-loving fan. With that being said, this weekly column might come across as a little biased, but it is hard to ignore my love for the Chiefs. All NFL odds are of course from top sportsbook apps, but my thoughts on the game might lean towards KC. (Go, Chiefs Kingdom!)
The Chiefs are coming off a 3-0 preseason, and now is the real test…an AFC divisional round playoff rematch with the Chiefs hosting the Cleveland Browns in week 1.

Chiefs Game Preview
Even though the Chiefs are the current favorite to win the Super Bowl by most sportsbooks such as FanDuel and Caesars, they have a tough road ahead of them. Their first two games are against AFC playoff teams, the Browns and Ravens, and their third game is a division game against the Chargers. So starting off with a winning record is important for the Chiefs if they want to head back to their fourth consecutive AFC championship.
Of course, there are high expectations for KC. After one of the worst Super Bowl performances, the boys are hungrier than ever. And with a newly built offensive line to protect MVP favorite Patrick Mahomes, this could be the year the Chiefs return to the Super Bowl and win it. But it all starts at home in week 1, playing an AFC team that could become a playoff rival for many years to come.
If Orlando Brown, Joe Thuney, and Creed Humphrey can do their job giving Mahomes time to do his thing, he should be able to throw downfield to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce all day. And with Sammy Watkins no longer on the roster, it is time for Mecole Hardman to step it up.
As for the defense, Chris Jones, Frank Clark, and Tyrann Mathieu need to do what they do best and bring pressure to the Browns, hopefully causing a few turnovers. It isn’t going to be easy, but the Chiefs can pull off a win if the offensive line can protect Mahomes and the team eliminates silly penalties.
Browns Game Preview
After earning a playoff spot for the first time since 2002, the Browns’ success last season wasn’t by luck. Head coach Kevin Stefanski and quarterback Baker Mayfield led the team to an impressive winning season. But it was a team effort and this season is expected to be just as successful, with many of the team’s star players returning. In fact, the Browns could easily be at the top of the AFC North.
Mayfield returns with his weapons Jarvis Landry, Nick Chubb, Odell Beckham Jr., and Kareem Hunt. Many NFL analysts have predicted Hunt to have a breakout year, which is why I drafted him in one of my Fantasy Football leagues.
On the other side of the ball, Myles Garrett is going to get some help after the Browns signed Jadeveon Clowney in the off-season. Beckham Jr. and Garrett are suffering from injuries, but are expected to play against the Chiefs.
