To just about anyone not named Cam Akers, the thought of Akers returning from a torn right Achilles tendon to play in 2021 was beyond ludicrous. Akers, though, was too busy focusing on a remarkable comeback to worry about outsiders. Now those outsiders are busy pondering Cam Akers Super Bowl prop bets to place by Sunday.
Yes, despite tearing his right Achilles just days before the Los Angeles Rams were set to open training camp, Akers will be busy against the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl 56.
Akers returned to action in the Rams’ regular-season finale, and the fact he had just three yards rushing on five carries, and three receptions for 10 yards meant nothing. His return to action was proof of his determination and further proof that an Achilles injury won’t necessarily wreck a career.
In three playoff games, Akers gained 151 yards on 54 carries and 62 yards on five receptions. He’s not yet flashing the form that saw him gain 625 yards during the 2020 regular season, when he added 221 yards in two playoff games, but he still has the Super Bowl to go.
A shoulder injury has limited Akers in practices for the Super Bowl, and he’s officially listed as questionable as of midweek. But Akers is expected to play, and oddsmakers around the betting market are preparing that way as well.
Cam Akers Super Bowl Prop Bets
Cam Akers To Score First/Last TD +750, To Score Any TD -110 DraftKings
Akers had just two touchdowns as a rookie and hasn’t reached the end zone this postseason. It will be a feel-good story if he does score, but with Darrell Henderson Jr. possibly returning from a knee injury, and with Sony Michel also in the mix, there’s a potential logjam for work near the goal line.
Cam Akers Rushing Yards 64.5 (over -115, under -110) BetMGM
The key to this prop will likely be waiting until closer to Sunday to see if there’s a clear indication of whether or not the Rams have Henderson on the active roster. If so, that could cut into Akers’ production. If Henderson isn’t active, having two weeks of rest since the AFC Championship game may have Akers feeling closer to his pre-injury form. Of course, Henderson’s availability could prompt oddsmakers to move this number.
At Caesars, Akers’ rushing yards prop has been adjusted to 63.5 from a 58.5 opener, although 65% of bets and 68% of total dollars wagered have been on under.
Cam Akers 2.5 Receptions (over +140, under -170) Caesars
Akers had three receptions in his lone regular-season game and three in one of his three playoff games. He had just one catch each in the other two postseason games. If the Bengals do a good job covering Cooper Kupp and Odell Beckham Jr., quarterback Matthew Stafford might look to get the ball out quickly to Akers throughout the game.
At Caesars, 85% of tickets are on over 2.5 receptions, but 94% of the money is going the other way.
Cam Akers To Win Super Bowl MVP Award +2500 BetRivers
A win by the Rams leaves Stafford as the most likely MVP candidate, with Kupp next in line. If it’s a low-scoring affair and the Bengals’ offense is neutralized, Aaron Donald or Von Miller might be in the mix. It would be quite the story for Akers to win the award – and quite the upset based on his odds.
Most Receptions: Joe Mixon -310 Or Cam Akers +230 FanDuel
Cincinnati’s Mixon has had 13 receptions in three playoff games compared to just five for Akers. The Bengals are going to have to try neutralizing the Rams’ pass rush, which may force quarterback Joe Burrow to dump the ball off to Mixon.
