This week, I went to a restaurant that I have gone to so many times. In fact, when I moved to Las Vegas in 2008 this was one of the first restaurants that I went to and it quickly became my go-to spot when I worked on the East side of town.

It also was the restaurant that I took my wife Lori to for our first date. I’m not sure if it was me or the great meal but it got me a second date and as the saying goes, the rest is history.

Casa di Amore is located at 2850 E. Tropicana Ave. You know I love Old School Italian Food and Old School Vegas and Casa di Amore brings you both.

While you are dining, they have live entertainment to enjoy. Nothing like someone singing an old Frank Sinatra song to set the mood. The walls are filled with vintage old pictures of Vegas and the Las Vegas Strip. Hotel marquees showing the current headliners from back in the day. It really is cool to see the all history on the walls of Casa di Amore.

But this is a food review so let’s get to some food. One of my favorite appetizers is the Prosciutto Mozzarella Crostini. They take slices of homemade Italian bread, toast it, then top it with fresh buffalo mozzarella and thin slices of prosciutto. This is a great way to start your meal.

Some of my favorite entrees are the Veal Francaise, Veal Parmigiana, Pork Chops Sicilian and Gnocchi with Meat Sauce. I love Casa Di Amore’s meat sauce as it’s just like Mom’s.

On this visit I had the Pork Chops Sicilian. You get two 8-ounce pork chops breaded and baked to perfection, and is served with a twice-baked potato and fresh vegetables. The breading is a very light mixture of Italian breadcrumbs and seasonings. It gives the pork chops such a great flavor without dominating.

I highly recommend this dish. The portions are huge so bring an appetite but you may want to save room for dessert especially if you like cannoli as Casa di Amore has one of the best cannoli in the city.

I could stop the article right here, but last year Casa di Amore added an outdoor Tiki Hut patio to the back of the restaurant. If you aren’t feeling like a big traditional Italian meal you can belly up to the bar outside and enjoy some tropical drinks and listen to live music. It’s a totally different vibe outside as they transformed the area into a tropical paradise.

Happy Hour is all day long in the Tiki Hut area which includes drink specials and 50 percent off all pizzas. They also have a special bar menu to order from to dine outside including appetizers and Tiki Tacos.

It’s like two different places in one and you can enjoy one or both. After dinner head out back and enjoy a few drinks with that special someone in Tiki Di Amore.

The service at Casa di Amore is fantastic as the staff is very attentive and friendly. The food is excellent, and the portions are large. Throw in that they helped me get a second date with my better half and I give Casa di Amore my highest rating of 4.00 Forks.
