The Kansas City Chiefs host the Los Angeles Chargers to kick off Week 2 of the NFL season on Thursday Night Football.

With a major AFC West showdown already here, it’s time to take a look at Chiefs vs. Chargers Thursday Night Football props and anytime touchdown scorer bets.

MVP candidates Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes are featured among our prop picks after both opened the 2022 season with strong performances. Sportsbooks peg this as a high-scoring affair, so there’s plenty of betting action to consider, including TNF props.

Chiefs vs. Chargers TNF Player Props

Patrick Mahomes Over 305.5 Passing Yards (-115, Caesars)

Tyreek who? Mahomes shredded the Cardinals defense for 360 yards and five touchdowns even without Tyreek Hill serving as his primary target. Thursday’s matchup is expected to be high scoring and closely contested, providing Mahomes with another opportunity to sling it around the yard.

Justin Herbert Under 38.5 Pass Attempts (-125, Caesars)

Conventional thinking suggests Herbert will need to go toe-to-toe with Mahomes to lead the Chargers to victory. We’re going to bet on Herbert succeeding with efficiency versus sheer volume. He attempted 38 passes in each of the Chargers’ dates with the Chiefs last season, and he’ll be without Keenan Allen (hamstring), who serves as his outlet for quick — and frequent — short-area completions.

NFL MVP odds: Mahomes, Herbert among NFL MVP favorites

Austin Ekeler Over 37.5 Receiving Yards (-130, DraftKings)

Ekeler’s dual-purpose ability was on display in Week 1 even if it wasn’t a performance he’d brag about. Thirty-eight receiving yards is not exactly a monster hurdle for Ekeler, who is one of the game’s premier pass-catching backs. Allen’s absence frees a significant portion of the Chargers’ targets in the passing game. Nobody on the Chargers is a one-for-one replacement for what Allen offers, but Ekeler’s receiving ability out of the backfield will be on display Thursday night.

Travis Kelce Over 7.5 Receptions (+100, DraftKings)

Patrick Mahomes apologized to fantasy owners in advance, indicating the Chiefs would spread the love offensively. The part left unsaid is that Kelce will continue to eat full servings. He accounted for 23% of Mahomes’ targets in Week 1 and finished with an 8-121-1 line. Kelce played well in his most recent meetings with the Chargers, and the stage will be set for him to do so again.

TNF Prop Bets: Anytime Touchdown Scorers

  • Mike Williams | +145, FanDuel
  • Clyde Edwards-Helaire | +140, Caesars
  • Travis Kelce | -130, FanDuel

Williams will increase the volume on a muted start to the season. Speaking of volume, he’s likely to see more than four targets with Allen sidelined. Williams is no stranger to impressive, multi-score performances, particularly when Allen is absent.

We’ve touched on Kelce’s role in the offense. Double-digit spikes are in the cards for 2022, and we like his chances on Thursday.

Edwards-Helaire may not be a prolific touchdown-scorer, but his dual-purpose role offers him opportunities to punch it in as a runner or receiver.
