Our Pick: KC Chiefs at 0. Claim a $50 free bet with a $5 deposit at DraftKings
The Chiefs started off the season as the team to beat. There were high hopes of the Chiefs returning to the Super Bowl for the third year in a row. Unfortunately, that hope is quickly disappearing.
After losing their last two games, the Chiefs are now last in their division with a 1-2 record. They have played some tough teams, but the issue is, the team just doesn’t look good. First, the defense is absolutely horrendous and can’t stop the opponent from running down the field and scoring, especially when in the red zone. But on top of that, the offense is just not meshing. The Chiefs had FOUR turnovers in their loss against the Chargers, with two fumbles and two interceptions by Patrick Mahomes.
And that is the other problem. Sports betting apps had Mahomes as the favorite to win MVP, but Patrick just doesn’t look comfortable out there and now sportsbooks like DraftKings have Kyler Murray as the MVP favorite.
I am trying to keep up hope that the Chiefs will get it together and start playing the ball we all expect from them, but if they lose to the Eagles on Sunday, I will be officially worried.
Chiefs Game Preview (1-2)
I really can’t get over how awful the defense is. The defense has allowed opponents to score 25 points or more in every game this season, which hasn’t happened since 2008. Things aren’t much better on the other side of the ball, where the Chiefs have six turnovers in the first three games of the season. What is even more shocking is that Patrick Mahomes has three interceptions so far. Before starting the season, Mahomes had never lost a game or thrown an interception in the month of September. Now, he has three interceptions and two losses under his belt.
As we look ahead to Sunday’s matchup against the Eagles, a game the Chiefs SHOULD win, I can’t help but be a little worried. If the offense can quit fumbling the ball and Mahomes can get back to his tempo, it should be enough to beat the Eagles. Travis Kelce is still racking up yards, with 104 receiving yards last week against the Chargers. And wide receiver Mecole Hardman is starting to step it up, with a touchdown last Sunday.
The biggest improvement needs to be with the defense. I don’t know what they need to do, but they need to figure it out and fix it fast. From putting more pressure on the quarterback to stopping the run game, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will need to come up with some answers and a solid game plan.
Eagles Game Preview (1-2)
The good news for the Chiefs is that the Philadelphia Eagles look pretty bad, especially during their loss against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw two interceptions and led the team in rushing yards with only 66 yards. This gives me hope that the Chiefs’ defense won’t have much run to stop. But you have to give credit to the Dallas Cowboys who held the Eagles to only 12 first downs.
The Eagles also struggled with penalties, finishing the game with a total of 13. Philadelphia’s defense might be a challenge for the Chiefs. The defense had a total of four sacks on the Cowboys and with the Chiefs revamped offensive line still trying to find a groove, Mahomes could be running for his life.
Race For The Playoffs
Yes, we need to start talking about the playoffs since the Chiefs have already lost a division game and with the Raiders and Broncos both being 3-0.
The AFC West has always been a pretty tough division, but in the last few years, the Chiefs have been the clear division winners. Since Patrick Mahomes was named QB1, the Chiefs have attended three consecutive AFC Championships, earned a spot in back-to-back Super Bowls, and won it all in 2020. The Chiefs have been on top of the AFC West the past few seasons, but now things are crashing down.
Hopefully, I am just overreacting as we are only entering week 4 of the season, but if the Chiefs don’t start addressing their issues, mainly the defense, it is going to be a long season for the Chiefs and their fans.
