Georgia’s offense was good enough last year. But the defense carried the team to the national championship, and the Bulldogs have to rebuild the unit this year. Only three defensive starters are returning, but Georgia has plenty of talent on the roster. Will they have the kinks worked out for Week 1?
One advantage in Oregon’s favor: New Ducks head coach Dan Lanning was the defensive coordinator at Georgia for the last three years.
Notre Dame vs. Ohio State Betting Lines
NCAAF · Fri (12/16) @ 11:35am ET
MIAO Miami (OH) | at | UAB UAB |
Ohio Stadium, Columbus, OH |
Notre Dame has been one of the better teams in the country in recent years, but they haven’t been at the same level as Ohio State. Whether the Fighting Irish can pull off the upset here depends on their defense being able to slow down C.J. Stroud and how quickly the offense (and its new quarterback) can get up to speed.
Alabama vs. Texas Point Spread & Total
NCAAF · Fri (12/16) @ 11:35am ET
MIAO Miami (OH) | at | UAB UAB |
DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX |
This game may not mean much to most of the nation, but it could mean the world to Texas fans. With the Longhorns set to join the SEC soon, a good showing against Alabama could give the fanbase and recruiting a big boost. A poor showing could scare away some of the top talent Texas hopes to attract by joining the toughest conference in college football.
Texas has some solid talent on offense in running back Bijan Robinson and receiver Xavier Worthy, and expectations are high for the probable starter at quarterback, Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers. But even if the offense is competitive, the Longhorns defense last season was barely competitive by Big 12 standards. Facing an offense like Alabama’s could be eye-opening.

This game is always a great matchup, no matter how either team is doing. It’s one of those rivalries where both teams seem to find a way to bring their best game to the field. But this version of the Red River Showdown features two teams with lots of questions.
Oklahoma has been the class of the Big 12, but offensive-minded head coach Lincoln Riley is gone, and so are quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Spencer Rattler, who transferred to USC and South Carolina, respectively.
Texas has talent but struggles to bring its A-game consistently.

Jim Harbaugh finally got his first win against the Buckeyes last season. However, the defense was the key to victory in that game, and Harbaugh has only three starters coming back on that side of the ball. While seven offensive starters return, the defense carried the team in 2021.
Ohio State lost some key players to the NFL as well. But the Buckeyes have a solid corps of talented starters returning, including Stroud, TreVeyon Henderson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ronnie Hickman, Denzel Burke, and Zach Harrison.
