NFC East Rivalry Game on MNF

One of the league’s biggest surprises, the unbeaten Giants, play host to a team that had one of the surprise wins in Week 2 when the Cowboys and backup QB Cooper Rush beat the defending AFC champion Bengals, 20-17, as a seven-point underdog.

Dallas has won nine of its past 10 games vs. NYG dating to the 2017 NFL season (8-2 against the spread), including a 44-20 win in the JerryDome last year when the Cowboys rushed for 201 yards and had 515 yards of total offense.

In that game, Giants WR Kadarius Toney (then a rookie) had by far his best outing of the year with 189 yards on 10 receptions — the most yards for any receiver in a losing cause in the regular season last year. But where is Toney this year? He’s been targeted only three times, has two catches, and piled up zero yards.

Rush is 2-0 as a starter during his five-year career with Dallas, also winning as an emergency starter in Minnesota last year. In both instances, the Cowboys scored 20 points.

The Giants, meanwhile, have QB Daniel Jones back after he missed much of last year with a neck injury. New York was so awful without him that it had less than 200 yards in total offense in each of its final three games.

Cowboys vs. Giants MNF Prediction

Dallas, already thin at receiver, likely will be without star TE Dalton Schultz, who’s dealing with a PCL sprain and is questionable for this game.

That’s not good news for an offense that still hasn’t gotten its running game in high gear. For instance, leading rusher Zeke Elliott has totaled only 105 yards.

Here’s where the Giants have an edge with rejuvenated RB Saquon Barkley, who leads the league in rushing thanks in large part to his season-opening 164-yard performance in a comeback win at Tennessee.

If the Giants can keep an extra eye on sack leader Micah Parsons (four) and keep him off Jones’ back, New York should be able to remain perfect this season.

And since NYG’s defense held Carolina’s Baker Mayfield to less than 50 percent passing last week, why not Rush this week considering his limited receiver resources?

Prediction: Giants 20, Cowboys 14
