What a wild week of NFL football it was! And it was only the first week. From the Dallas Cowboys almost beating the Tampa Bay Bucs on Thursday Night Football to the Las Vegas Raiders beating the Baltimore Ravens in overtime in Las Vegas. If we continue to get crazy games like this, it is going to be one heck of a season, especially for bettors who like to play NFL moneylines.
With sports betting apps in full swing in Arizona, I did place a few parlay bets, but unfortunately, lost all of them. The good news is, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Browns!
Last Week’s Results
Dad – 10 games right (1-0)
Calli – 9 games right (0-1)
I hate to admit it, but my dad won week 1. I got nine games right and he got ten. This is mainly because he picked the Raiders. I really didn’t think the Raiders were going to stop the Ravens. But Max Crosby and the rest of the roster showed up to defeat Lamar Jackson in overtime.
It was pretty crazy to see every team in the NFC West and the AFC West win. The teams faced a total of six playoff teams and ended up going 8-0.
Both my dad and I were surprised to see Green Bay not only lose to the New Orleans Saints but fail to score a touchdown. Another game with an unexpected ending was the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers game. Now, the Steelers go on to host the Raiders in week 2. And I think the Raiders can go 2-0 against the AFC North.
Week 2 Picks
This week’s picks were much easier after seeing how teams came out in week 1. Dad and I agreed on every game (yes, I picked the Raiders), except ONE…the Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals.
I went with the Bengals and my dad went with the Bears. Cincinnati beat the Vikings in overtime with Joe Burrow completing 20 out of 27 passes and ending the game with two touchdowns. Joe Mixon rushed for 127 yards and I am thinking he does that again this week because the Bears defense won’t be able to stop him. However, my dad likes the Bears defense, mainly because of Khalil Mack. I just don’t see the Bears stopping the Bengals’ offense or the Bears’ offense putting up enough points to beat them.
Why am I picking the Raiders? I think the Raiders defense has what it takes to bring down Big Ben. If Max Crosby performs like he did last week, the Steelers are going to have to fight to score. No one really stood out to me on Pittsburgh’s offense last week, and Big Ben finished the game with only 188 passing yards and one touchdown. But they did something right to beat the Buffalo Bills. T.J. Watt ended the game with two sacks, so Derek Carr will have to watch out for him. I still think the Raiders have the better offense and will get the W.
Week 2 Games To Watch
Every game this week is going to be worth watching to see if week 1 was a true glimpse into the season. The Cardinals are expected to put on a show at home against the Vikings, so it will be interesting to see if they can pull it off. The Dallas Cowboys put on quite the performance on Thursday Night Football in week 1. They take on the Los Angeles Chargers this week. This was a tough pick to make, but I went with the Chargers. Either way, it is going to be a great game.
Of course, the Sunday Night Football game is going to be one of the best of week 2. The Kansas City Chiefs travel to the Baltimore Ravens and I am taking the Chiefs on this one. I was not impressed with the Ravens’ performance on Monday night and even though the Chiefs started off slow against the Browns, I think Patrick Mahomes is going to throw for over 500 yards. The Honey Badger is expected to be back for this game and Andy Reid is optimistic that Frank Clark will be ready by game time.
The Monday Night Football game isn’t very exciting, with the Green Bay Packers hosting the Detroit Lions. But all eyes will be on Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay. Was last week’s awful performance just a fluke? A home game against the Detroit Lions will be a good test for the Packers.
Here is to another exciting week of football!
