Race 1

Maidens go six furlongs. No. 3 Deputy Bernardini just did get beat first out of the box when bet down to .90 cents on the dollar. He gets an extra half furlong today and will be odds on and everyone’s single in the early pick five. That last work here at Del Mar on the 17th was a pip, all systems are a go. No. 4 Paddock Pick is unlucky to still be a maiden, he just missed in his last two going down the hill and owns a bullet last work. 3***-4

Race 2

$25k claimers travel a mile on the grass. No. 1 Broken Up just missed last out at this turf distance at Santa Anita. No. 3 Gain Ground looks dangerous as he is in from Arlington Park and gets Prat. No. 7 Bold Papa drops into an action spot for top connections. No. 9 Secreto Primero is the stablemate of Broken Up and gets his second start off the claim, he has a good record on this turf course. 1-3-7-9

Race 3

$50k 3yo travel seven furlongs. No. 1 Risky Proposition has been turfing of late, the one time he ran on the dirt was going seven furlongs at Santa Anita and he won for fun. No. 3 Stop the Violence exits our HTW list off a huge win off the layoff for Peter Miller. No. 5 Goodwillambassador gets off the grass and has won at this distance. 1-3-5

Race 4

Optional $40k fillies and mares go five furlongs on the grass. No. 3 Tizanillusion has big early speed, she has been going down the hill of late and ran second here last year at this level and distance losing by a neck. No. 5 Venezuelan Gold gets her second start off the layoff and her one turf race was good, she gets in with lightweight. No. 8 Silken Spy won here last year when breaking her maiden on this five-furlong turf course, Pedroza rode her that day and he gets on today. No. 11 Cute Knows Cute has been meeting stronger, she is the stablemate of Venezuelan Gold and gets blinkers on today and a great post.  11***-3-5-8

Race 5

Calif. bred $50k maiden 2yo go five furlongs. No. 3 Swing Thoughts exits a good last race in which the third-place finisher came back to score here on opening day. No. 9 Lakerball takes her first start for Baltas and he puts the hard trying Agapito Delgadillo up for the ride. No. 10 Disco Tale also exits a good race, she gets her second start off a troubled last start, she gets in with lightweight. She will go better today.  3-9-10

Race 6

THE $75K WICKERR AT A MILE ON THE GRASS

No. 3 Cistron just missed in his last two starts, he owns a win on this course. No. 4 Giant Payday looks sneaky here, he ships in for Ian Wilkes and gets back on the grass after meeting Hoppertunity in the Grade 2 Brooklyn on the dirt last out. No. 6 Isotherm had a work on the grass here on the 16th and we like that. No. 9 Big Score has hit the board in all four of his starts here and gets some big class relief and Bejarano up for the ride. No. 10 Colonist just missed in the Grade 3  American one race back, he’s a player here from off the pace. No. 12 PERFECTLY MAJESTIC will be our play in this race when all is said and done, he exits our HTW list as a $$$$$ play off his good prep down the hill last out. He has a great record here at Del Mar with 3 wins from 8 starts. No. 14 Bombard beat Perfectly Majestic in that last race. 12***-14-3-4-9-10

Race 7

Maiden 2yo fillies go six furlongs. No. 3 Mother Mother is a first-time starter for Baffert, they paid $450k for her. Her last two works say yes. Richard Mandella sends out the $300k Tapit filly No. 8 Tapwater for her first start, she can be any kind. 3**-8

Race 8

THE $250K GRADE 2 EDDIE READ AT 1-1/8 ON THE GRASS

No. 1 True Valour in from Ireland and jockey Jamie Spencer is in for the ride. No. 4 Bowie’s Hero is a two-time winner on this course and won the Oceanside last year. No. 5 Sharp Samurai has won 2 of his 3 starts here including the Del Mar Derby. No. 7 Hunt is in top form coming off a win in the Grade 1 Shoemaker mile, he has won three times here and won this race last year. No. 11 Fashion Business is the stablemate of Bowie’s Hero and Hunt, he has some long-shot appeal. 7**-4**-11

Race 9

$12,500 fillies and mares travel a mile on the main. No. 7 If You Like It gets her first start off the Morey claim, she is a win machine winning 10 of her 31 starts and has a big last work over the track on the 16th, we think she is ready and will single in the late picks. 7
