In my never ending search for the perfect slice of pizza, I traveled over to Summerlin to Due Forni (3555 S. Town Center Drive). As I walked in, the aroma of pizza baking hit me right away.

Next to the smell of popcorn at the movies I don’t think there is a better smell. 

On this visit I sat at the bar so I could watch the Lakers/Heat game and was greeted right away by the bartender. Usually at a new place that I have never eaten at, my plan is to ask the waiter or bartender for some suggestions. He told me about this appetizer they have called Mozzarella Bar.

Let me tell you, this is a must to try if you’re a fan of fresh mozzarella. You pick from three different bufala mozzarella’s. They have the Classica (which is a delicate mozzarella), an Affumicata (smoked) and Stracciatella (soft and creamy). After you decide which type of mozzarella to order, then pick a side. I went with the roasted red peppers. 

They serve this baked pizza dough that is brushed with a butter topping. You could make a meal just out of this appetizer. I absolutely loved it. There were several other appetizers that caught my eye that will be tried on another visit. One in particular was the chef’s platter, which had a nice sampling of Parmesan cheese, soppressata, bresaola, prosciutto, roasted red peppers, black olives and artichokes.

We were here this time for the pizza. You have two choices – a thicker crust Neapolitan or the thin and crispy crunch Roman. After you decide on which type of crust, you then pick from eight different combinations. I went with the Neapolitan style and chose their signature pizza the Due Forni. 

It comes with San Marzano tomato sauce, bufala mozzarella, house made sausage, bacon and piquillo peppers. I loved this combination and was a big fan of their house made sausage. 

If you are not feeling like pizza they do offer a filet entrée and a Sea Bass (Branzino) served with argula and toasted pine nuts, which looked good as well. The other thing Due Forni does well is wine. They have a very extensive wine list as you can enjoy wines from $7 a glass (with 24 wines under $15) or go for the gusto with a Tignanello at $49.95 a glass.

If you are looking for a nice place to share a pizza and conversation with friends and have a glass or two of wine, I highly recommend Due Forni. I will be back next time with more people in my party so I can try some of the other items on the menu. I give Due Forni 3.75 Forks!
