It’s Jackpot time.
The Delta Jackpot at Delta Downs is a track that the Boyd Group has done great things with. This Saturday they will be hosting a big card including five races.
The featured event is the Delta Jackpot for 2-year-olds, a race that the Boyd Group wants to be a major stepping stone to the Kentucky Derby in the near future. The winner this year will guarantee himself enough earnings for a starting spot on the first Saturday in May in Louisville.
This race has been moved up from past years when it was contested in December. The Boyd Group wanted it to be closer to the Breeders’ Cup and is working to make these races sort of a Breeders Cup of their own.
One thing we do know about Cajun country is that they breed some of the top jockeys in the land, like Eddie D, Kent D and we all know what Calvin Bo-rail can and has done.
These five races will be part of a big contest that all the Boyd race books will be having – Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast, Sam’s Town and the Fremont.
For those of you who had a great time betting the Breeders’ Cup but didn’t cash, this will give you a big shot a cashing in on BC No. 2, a $10,000 handicapping tournament with the top prize $5,000, $2,500 for second place, $1,500 for third, $750 for fourth and $250 for fifth.
All it costs is a $20 bill or as they say in Steubenville – a “double sawbuck” and you can get up to 10 entries. All you need to do is get a form and study those five big races at Delta this Saturday, races 6-10.
If you happen to get all five winners on a ticket, I know you will win. And, I know my double saw buck will be in action. You never know — maybe we can even see this year’s Kentucky Derby winner in action.
There is a cap on the win end of 20-1. Stop over at one of your favorite Boyd Group properties and pick up a set of rules. I will be posting my selections of the five races on our website this Friday.
I do have some good connections down there and maybe can come up with a good one. They will also be holding drawings after each of the races. Just put your losing tickets wagered on the Delta races in a drum and they will be giving away some great stuff from Jack Daniels.
Well, last week I went 6-4 with my college picks but I was very disappointed with the Colts result as they had a TD called back. Cincy got a late TD to cover, but we did win our teasers.
Last week was last week so let’s move on to see what we can do now as the college football season winds down. Did it go fast!
Friday, Nov. 19
Fresno St +30 at Boise St: I don’t know what the total on this game will be, but we know there will be one posted. Do we lay the -30 on the blue carpet? How good is Boise? I think they are almost unbeatable at home. They are extremely well coached, their defense is top notch and their offense can score at will. BOISE ST.
Saturday, Nov. 20
Florida St -5 at Maryland: Big shot for the Terrapins in this game as they only lost by 6 in Miami and have been playing lights out. Last year they only lost by 3 in Tallahassee. MARYLAND.
Virginia +7 at BC: The Eagles have won and covered three straight games due to a great defense and they catch the Cavaliers in a good spot. BOSTON COL.
Idaho +2 at Utah St: The Aggies have won and covered against Idaho the past three years and catch the Vandals off crazy game against Boise last week. UTAH ST.
Stanford -7 at California: I hate to go against a team that I made a good score with last week but the Golden Bears are a must bet-against even at home. Cal comes off that huge effort against Oregon, a game the Bears could easily have won. STANFORD.
New Mexico +27 at BYU: The Cougars won 10 games last year in regular season and then took the Las Vegas Bowl defeating Oregon State. BYU now has gone 4-1 SU in last 5 and can somehow find its way to a Bowl if winning its last 2. Cougars can name the score in this game. BYU.
Nebraska -3½ at Texas A&M: The Aggies offense has come alive, averaging over 41 points a game in their last 4. A&M has won and covered each one, defeating Kansas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Baylor. And, they don’t like the Cornhuskers. A&M.
Mississippi +16 at LSU: This is the second of back-to-back games for the Rebels, who come off a crushing defeat at Tennessee. Meanwhile, LSU was shutting out UL Monroe 51-0. LSU could easily be undefeated going into its last two games, but they let a big one get away at Auburn. No mistakes at home in this game. LSU.
NFL
In the wacky pros, which gets more like WWE wrestling every week, I guess you will need to play on the new COWBOYS -7½. The Steelers are really banged up so if you can get the RAIDERS +7 that would be a good play. The RAVENS -9½ off the loss will shut down the hapless Panthers.
