The Diamondbacks dropped two of three against the Rays but are still playing great baseball. They currently lead the NL West by two games over the Dodgers, and they have one of the best offenses in baseball.
Led by NL Rookie of the Year runaway Corbin Carroll, the DBacks rank seventh in fWAR (13.4) and wRC+, sixth in SLG (.438), and fifth in runs (420). Despite not having a high Barrel rate, they have the 11th most home runs this season.
The pitching has also been surprisingly good out of the bullpen, but tonight’s starter, Tommy Henry, ranks in the bottom half of the league in xSLG, xwOBA, and his spin rates on his fastball and curveball rank in the bottom 25%.

While the Angels’ offense is very hit or miss, they rank fourth in fWAR, and they have the best one-two punch in baseball right now with Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. Trout is experiencing his first season of decline, but even then, he still has a 2.9 fWAR and a 136 wRC+.
What Arizona and Henry should really be concerned about is Ohtani, who is in the middle of the best season in the history of baseball. Not only is he pitching at an elite level, but he is the best hitter in baseball, and this month, he has taken his performance to a nuclear level.
Ohtani slashes .392/.484/.931 in June with a 1.415 OPS with 14 home runs and 28 RBI. He also has the highest Barrel% (26%) and runs (28) this month. Despite his struggles against left-handed pitching, Ohtani has dominated at Angel Stadium with a .340 ISO and 13 home runs.

Diamondbacks vs. Angels Prediction
The starting pitching matchup feels like a wash with two guys that give up a lot of contact and have low strikeout numbers. Griffin Canning is due for slight regression for Los Angeles, but not enough for us to blindly take Arizona, especially with Henry’s struggles.
However, Arizona has been one of the best teams in baseball at hitting right-handed pitching, and on the road, they rank in the top 10 in runs (213), ISO (.172), OPS (.758), wOBA (.329), and wRC+ (105). Meanwhile, Los Angeles also has one of the best offenses in baseball, but that pitching staff is just so damn awful, especially the bullpen, which has a 4.84 xFIP in June.
This game will likely come down to whichever lineup performs the best, and despite Trout and Ohtani on one side, we will be taking a more complete offense in Arizona.
