I am always looking for a new place to try and sometimes it’s one that actually has been around a long time. Those are even more fun to visit.

This week we went to Casa Don Juan Authentic Mexican Restaurant located at 1204 S. Main Street in downtown Las Vegas. It is a family owned business that has actually been open for over 20 years.

In a city that sees so many places come and go it’s refreshing to come across one that stands the test of time. When you see a restaurant that is not on the beaten path and supported by the locals you know you have found something special. That’s what I found at Casa Don Juan.

I’ll admit I found the place by accident as I was heading downtown to make some bets on the weekend football games and took a detour on Main Street. I hadn’t been on this particular part of Main before. This Mexican restaurant caught my eye so I stopped in for lunch.

I was greeted with complimentary chips, salsa and bean dip as they took my drink order. I really enjoyed the chips, as they were the lighter thin chips that I prefer as opposed to the thicker ones. I ordered chicken and shrimp tacos. For a little variety I had the chicken on hard shell and the shrimp on soft. Both were spot on and my lunch was a huge success.

Now for me, if you are going to become one of my favorite Mexican restaurants you have to have a killer Fried Ice Cream for dessert. It was excellent and the best I’ve had so far in Las Vegas. I actually took a picture of it and sent it to my wife with a smiley.

After telling the wife how good everything was I took her to Casa Don Juan for dinner a few days later. She enjoyed the enchiladas with rice and beans. I ordered the steak and chicken fajitas. The fajitas were excellent and a very good size portion.

For dessert we ordered the fried ice cream. Lori liked the fried ice cream a lot but ranked it as the second best in Las Vegas. Either way you will like it as well as Casa Don Juan.

The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. I give Casa Don Juan a rating of 3.75 Forks.
