Best NL Wild Card Bets at DraftKings Sportsbook
In addition to home-field advantage, the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres secured their Wild Card spots with games to spare at the end of the season. The visiting New York Mets and Atlanta Braves, meanwhile, needed to churn through pitchers on Monday. DraftKings weighted those developments in their futures odds for the NL pennant and the World Series.
Team | To Win NL Pennant | To Win World Series |
---|---|---|
Los Angeles Dodgers | +175 | +360 |
Philadelphia Phillies | +230 | +475 |
San Diego Padres | +550 | +1000 |
Milwaukee Brewers | +800 | +1800 |
Atlanta Braves | +800 | +1900 |
New York Mets | +950 | +2000 |
New York Mets at Milwaukee Brewers Picks
After Monday’s hurricane-induced doubleheader, both the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves picked up the wins they needed to advance to the Wild Card round. New York’s wild 8-7 win Monday was more beneficial: The clincher in Game 1 allowed the Mets to stash starting pitcher Luis Severino for Tuesday’s Wild Card opener.
Looking Back:
The Brewers were the first team in the National League field when they clinched their playoff spot on Sept. 18 — nearly two full weeks before Tuesday’s Wild Card opener.
The rest of the NL Central flashed hot streaks, but none of the rivals could keep up with the quietly steady Brewers. They’ve reached the postseason in six of the last seven seasons. The 2024 team didn’t have a losing streak longer than three games all season.
The Mets were on the verge of selling at the trade deadline after a 22-33 start to the season, but New York’s NL squad used a 12-of-14 run in June to breathe life into postseason hopes. Milwaukee almost pushed the Mets to elimination over the weekend, but a Mets win in what was supposed to be the season finale set up Monday’s tense doubleheader with the Braves.
Looking Ahead:
Milwaukee will lead with seven-year veteran Freddy Peralta, who took a tough-luck, 2-1 loss in his last start. He’s only allowed four earned runs in his last 15.1 innings of work.
The Mets would have used Severino in a Game 2 elimination game on Monday, but he’ll take the mound for the Wild Card opener instead. His last start was shaky, with four runs in four innings of work on Sept. 24.
Team | Run Line | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
New York Mets | +1.5 (-180) | +124 | O 7.5 (+100) |
Milwaukee Brewers | -1.5 (+150) | -148 | U 7.5 (-120) |

- Francisco Lindor (Mets) Total Bases — One or more -180, Two or more +155, Three or more +300
- Freddy Peralta (Brewers) Strikeouts — Six or more -160, Seven or more +120, Eight or more +240
- Luis Severino (Mets) Strikeouts — Six or more+115, Seven or more +230, Eight or more +450
Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres Picks
Looking Back:
The Braves had the second-best World Series odds at the start of the 2024 MLB season, but the team has been crushed by injuries to superstar outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. and top-of-rotation pitcher Spencer Strider.
Still, the Braves are guided by manager Brian Snitker, and Atlanta has made seven straight MLB playoff appearances, including the 2021 World Series Championship.
San Diego traded Juan Soto, and Cy Young winner Blake Snell left in free agency, but the Padres have better results without those stars on their roster.
The 2024 Padres went 43-20 to boast the best record in MLB after the all-star break. They lost star Fernando Tatis Jr. for a large patch of the season, but he’s back. The team leads off with NL batting champion Luis Arraez. Manny Machado is slugging, and shortstop-turned-centerfielder Jackson Merrill is a rookie of the year contender. Trade deadline additions shored up the bullpen as well.
Looking Ahead:
The Braves lost two more key pieces for Tuesday’s Wild Card series when 3B Austin Riley was scratched from the active roster due to a season-ending hand injury in September. And, with less than 24 hours before Wild Card Game 1, the Braves left Cy Young favorite Chris Sale off the Wild Card roster due to a back injury.
DraftKings Sportsbook just posted odds as the Braves promoted AJ Smith-Shawver for the Game 1 start. Ian Anderson and Bryce Elder were the other options. Atlanta’s last-minute decision is understandable in light of Sale’s injury and the arms they had to deploy in the Sunday doubleheader.
The Padres will counter with Michael King, who came to San Diego in the offseason as part of the Juan Soto trade. He’s allowed just four earned runs in his last four starts and boasts a top-ten 2.95 ERA in the National League.
Team | Run Line | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Atlanta Braves | +1.5 (-148) | +160 | O 7.5 (+102) |
San Diego Padres | -1.5 (+124) | -192 | U 7.5 (-122) |
