Eagles vs Commanders Analysis and Prediction
While it’s always risky to assume any rivalry game will play out in favor of the better team on paper, Eagles-Commanders looks awfully one-sided. A year ago, though, a Philadelphia team that went 14-3 (with two of those losses coming in games Jalen Hurts missed due to injury) lost 32-21 to the Commanders at home after beating them 24-8 on the road earlier in the season.
The Commanders’ win over the Eagles last year is probably a big reason the Eagles aren’t favored by more than a touchdown this weekend. Washington also proved as recently as Week 4 of this season that it can hang with the reigning NFC Champs, as the Commanders lost that game 34-31 in overtime on the road.
But the question for anyone suggesting the Commanders can keep this game close — or pull the upset — is: How can they keep Sam Howell upright against Philadelphia’s imposing pass rush? Howell has already been sacked 40 times this year, including six times by the Giants in his team’s 14-7 loss last week. No Commanders opponent has gotten to Howell less than four times, and the Eagles sacked him five times when these teams met in Week 4.
As long as Philadelphia avoids a hangover from their outstanding showing in primetime against the Dolphins last Sunday, they should be able to win (and cover) against a Washington team that has lost four of its last five games (with two of those Ls coming against the 2-5 Giants and the 2-5 Bears).
