When I first moved to Las Vegas back in 2008, one of the first breakfast places I ever went to was Egg Works as it was close to the office.
Over the years I have been to every Egg Works there is around town. There are six Egg Works that have opened since 2005 and have set the standard for breakfast places in Las Vegas. But long before the first Egg Works, there was The Egg & I, which opened in 1988.
This was the restaurant that started it all and led to the opening of the six sister Egg Works locations. After eating at all of the other locations I have never eaten at the original location until this week.
Did you know that you can order our delicious BLACKENED PRIME RIB BENNY with Chipotle Hollandaise Sauce? All served on a grilled croissant w sautéed spinach, roasted red peppers, 2-poached eggs smothered in hollandaise sauce.

The Egg & I is located at 4533 W. Sahara Ave. I went on a Friday for a late breakfast and when I arrived there was a wait as Egg & I is a very popular place with us locals. The wait was only 15 minutes, so I stayed as I wanted to cross off this iconic restaurant off my list of Vegas restaurants that I haven’t been to yet. Not to mention, how many places can say they have been open since 1988?
Looking at the decor inside I could see how all the other locations got their look. Imagine all the famous Las Vegas people that at one time or another had breakfast in this local landmark. Every table had the iconic smiling egg face that if you needed something you flipped it over to show a frowning egg face letting your waitress know you needed something.
I ordered eggs, Ham steak and their famous seasoned breakfast potatoes. This is my favorite breakfast in Las Vegas. All of the breakfast dishes come with the choice of toast or a Hot Banana Nut Muffin. There really is no choice here as I’m getting a muffin and they are bringing it out before my breakfast so I can enjoy that warm goodness as an appetizer.
As usual, my breakfast was perfect, and I just love those potatoes with their seasoning. You can buy a bottle of the seasoning to take home and I have done that more than once.
As much as Egg & I and Egg Works are known for their breakfast dishes, they have a pretty famous lunch dish as well. This is my second-most ordered dish. If you have ever been to Cincinnati or anywhere remotely close to it, you have heard of Skyline Chili. You can get Skyline Chili served over spaghetti. First time I saw this, I said to myself, “This doesn’t sound good.” But I was dead wrong.
They call it Cincy Chili and they have three versions. You can order the 3-Way, 4-Way or 5-Way. The 3-Way has a blanket of cheese over the chili and spaghetti. The 4-Way is a 3-way with the addition of beans or onions. The 5-Way has the cheese, beans and onions. Personally, I’m a 4-Way guy with onions.
There is an extensive menu so there will be something for everyone and the wait staff is very friendly and attentive. I’m glad I finally made it to the location that started it all for the franchise. I give The Egg & I a rating of 4 Forks.
