The Excalibur runs away with the title as best keno on the Las Vegas Strip.

The pays are better, it is 100% non-smoking and has some very interesting regular and special tickets with low minimums available for way tickets and multi-game play.

It has direct express bus service from the airport (WAX) as well as the Deuce, SDX (Strip Express) and 201 (Tropicana bus) for easy access. It also has a FREE monorail to the Luxor and Mandalay Bay and is a short walk to the Las Vegas Monorail as well.

The regular rates return 70% to 80%, equal to or better than most other Strip keno games. Excalibur keno also features MegaKeno at the better of the two available pay tables.

MegaKeno and Mega10 are a statewide keno progressive for 5 to 10 stops run by XpertX out of Reno, a company that provides keno software and game setups for keno all over the state as well as many of the keno ticket writing machines found in many casinos.

The progressive tickets have a $1.50 rate and there is no upper limit on the progressive. The 10-spot starts at $1 million.

The Excalibur allows tickets as low as 50 cents for 50 games, 25 cents for 100 games, and 10 cents for 200 games or more.

On way tickets you can play 50 cents if three ways or more, 25 cents on 10 ways or more, and 60 cents on tickets of 60 ways or more.

This is the WAY to go, and the keno counter is not WAY out of your WAY in the casino either as it is located in their 100% non-smoking sportsbook.

Imagine all the fun you can have during football season watching multiple games at the sportsbook and betting on sports and keno in the same location! Fun! Fun! Fun! Of course do not FUMBLE while you are there!

Their Red Hot Special tickets (mark your ticket RH) are played at $2 per ticket or way. They pay in the 75% range and have some nice high-end payouts.

I really like the 7-spot that pays $1.50 for 4 out of 7, $15 for 5 out of 7, a GRAND ($1,000)  for 6 out of 7, and $21,000 for a SOLID 7.

The Red Hot 6-spot special is good, too, as it pays $1.50 for 3 out of 6, $7 for 4 out of 6, $150 for 5 out of 6, and $4,500 for a SOLID 6. This is a GREAT special as you get a very high pay for 6 out of 6 while still getting 75% of your money back for 3 out of 6.

I left the 8-spot special for last. They even pay for 4 out of 8, very uncommon for a Strip property! Four out of 8 pays $1.50, 5 out of 8 pays $7, 6 out of 8, $170; 7 out of 8, $3,600 (best 7 out of 8 pay in the area on a $2 ticket), and $50 GRAND for a SOLID 8 out of 8.

Now that we know the pays, what kind of ticket might be good to play at $2 a way to get a chance on hitting a SOLID 6, 7 or 8 without going under until that big one hits?

I would try either a 2-2-2-1-1 grouping (four 6s, two 7s, one 8) for a total ticket cost of $14 per game; or a 1-2-3-4 playing only the sixes, sevens, and eights (two 6s, two 7s, one 8) for a total ticket price of $10.

Due the good pays for hitting most of your numbers you have some really good chances with the above tickets.

A 3-2-2-1 ticket gives you one 8, one 7, and two 6s with an $8 total cost. Or try a 3-3-1-1 for one 8, two 7s, and a 6, also an $8 total cost.

The Excalibur offers an all day buffet pass thus you can eat all day while watching your numbers come up!

Want to really go for it? Play the 1-2-3-4 at the Red Hot Special rate and on a separate ticket play the MegaKeno for the 9-spot, using the same numbers, and the Mega10 for the 10-spot, using the same numbers.

If any of the MegaKeno progressives are getting high (they are not smoking grass as it is a non-smoking game) then substitute MegaKeno for that number of spots on your ticket(s).

Ask the writers if you can play the Red Hot Special and the MegaKeno on the same ticket or if separate tickets are required.

Of course you must play the Red Hot Specials for $2 a way and the MegaKeno for $1.50 per way.

Looking to play at a lower ticket cost, their regular rate has reasonable pays for the Strip with low way minimums.

Have fun, it’s all in joust (if you visit the Excalibur you will understand why I say joust instead of jest) and remember to not let the portcullis hit you on the way out!
