The final four has been set up for the college football championship games with Georgia, Oklahoma, Clemson and Alabama, and we think the selection committee did a good job.

We will take a quick look at some big bowl games and offer just a little opine on them.

On Dec. 29 we have USC taking on Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, which has been one of my favorite bowl games over the years starting back when the Steubenville sensation “Light Horse” Harry Wilson carried the ball for Nebraska.

Harry was a good buddy of mine at the Big Red in Spanish class. Ohio State has been listed as a -6.5 point chalk. This should be a wild game and for betting purposes we will be heading to the window to bet OVER the total as soon as one is posted.

On Saturday, Dec. 30 Washington will play Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix. The Lions have been installed as a -3 point favorite. This looks like a real good lay early. We like the Lions in this spot.

One-loss Wisconsin gets a bad draw as they will head to Miami to take on Miami, Florida in the Orange Bowl, which will be like a home game for the Hurricanes. Wisconsin has been installed as a -6.5 point favorite. I wouldn’t bet Miami even with a Bitcoin. “Wisky” or move on.

On Jan. 1 undefeated Central Florida will have a big time payday as they play Auburn in the Peach Bowl at Atlanta and could draw a big fan base from Orlando as Scott Frost goes out with a bang, getting +9.5 points. We know there is a huge class difference here but do you really think Auburn wanted to be playing UCF on New Year’s Day? We don’t think so.

In the Citrus Bowl surging LSU has been listed as a -2 point favorite over slumping Notre Dame. This bettor will be rushing to the book this morning to lay the -2.

Now we get to the prime time games, aka the final four:

In the Rose Bowl, Oklahoma has been installed as a pick or -1 point chalk vs. Georgia. This will be part of my early round robin parlay as we will be taking the Sooners, who we think are the best team in the country at this point. Sooners, we say, in what will be a wild one.

Now we get the rematch and rubber game with Alabama again taking on Clemson in the Sugar Bowl. The Crimson Tide will be looking for revenge from last year’s 35-31 loss in the national championship game. Alabama has been listed as a -1.5-point chalk and there is no coach better than slick Nick Saban getting revenge. Yet we just don’t know how good Alabama is as they played a very soft schedule. We will find out on New Year’s Day.

For betting purposes we will sit chilly watching where the early money goes in this game and look for some line value. We will cover all the bowl games in this column week by week so stay tuned.

Talking about big games, this one is for all my Steubenville readers and Big Red fans. The Steubenville Big Red won the Ohio State Division IV championship last Saturday in a wild game in Canton, beating a very good Clinton-Massie team 50-36 to end their perfect season 15-0. Great job of coaching by Ohio Hall of Fame high school coach Reno Saccoccia.

Take Note: If you are a yearly, weekly or monthly GamingToday subscriber, I will be offering something new on our great website starting on Tuesday, Dec. 26. Everyday Santa Anita runs we will be putting up a top play on the website. It could be a straight bet if the price is right or an exacta, pick three, daily double, pick four, pick five or a trifecta, etc. If you are not a subscriber this play will be worth the price of admission. Don’t wait, just call GT at 702-798-1151. We have a special price for subscriptions now until the end of December!

Horse play: Before horses, let’s talk college basketball. On Wednesday Wisconsin, who just got mulled by Ohio State 83-58 as a -9.5 point chalk, visits Temple who are one tough Owl to beat in Philly. We like a Temple win and cover. TEMPLE

At Los Alamitos TB, we will go to the last race Thursday, a 2yo maiden race for fillies going a flat mile. This race is very wide open but we think No. 8 Dancing Belle will get over-bet coming off of three straight Graded races and now back with maidens. The runner we will betting on is No. 6 Summer’s Indy who looks to be crying out for longer and will love this mile distance, plus the fact Van Dyke gets back on is big.
