As my high hopes for the NFL preseason took a reality check this past week and hard work turned into losers, I am regrouping.

I did my research and came up with some plays to pass along for those dedicated to a stick to it mentality. If you think picking NFL preseason is tough, sit with me and try beating Del Mar or Saratoga.

It’s been a long time in Southern California since we have had a 50  cent, pick five carryover buy on Sunday. No one could pick the winner of the first five races in the 50 cent pick five. In the first we had the longest shot of the race win and pay $34.40.

In the second race the 9/5 chalk got beat by a $17.60 winner. In the third it was a “not bad” $11.40 winner. Race 4 we had a first time starter pop, paying $20.60, beating the 9/5 chalk. The last leg saw the tote blowing up with a horse named Evening Twilight taking them wire to wire paying $87.60.

So we have a $362,503 pick five carryover this Wednesday with the books, track and syndicate players very happy.

Now let’s see if I can get some NFL winners.

Thursday, Aug. 16

Cincinnati Bengals at Atlanta Falcons: Cincinnati has gone is 6-1 to the OVER in its last seven preseason Week 2 games. Also, the Falcons are 9-1 ATS coming off double digit losses when favored next out. Falcons/OVER.

Cleveland Browns at Green Bay Packers: Green Bay has gone OVER the posted total in its last six Week 2 preseason games. OVER.

Friday, Aug. 17

A definite win as this will be my 65th birthday. I am now carrying my soon to be defunct medicare card so if I were you, as I never lose on my birthday, play the two listed here.

Miami Dolphins at Carolina Panthers: Carolina will be a much better team this year. I bet them OVER 7½ wins for the season. If history is right they will not win this matchup, having a streak of 0-5 in Week 2 of preseason. Dolphins.

Buffalo Bills at Minnesota Vikings: Didn’t see any early lines, but guessing Minnesota will be a small favorite. The Vikes are 8-1 ATS in their last nine as the preseason chalk. Buffalo is 4-0 on the road in preseason under HC Chan Gailey. Vikings.

Saturday, Aug. 18

New York Giants at New YorkJets: The J-E-T-S have gone 10-3 in their last 13 preseason games. HC Rex Ryan will not be in a good mood after last week’s loss. Jets.

Washington Redskins at Chicago Bears: Washington has gone 5-0 to the UNDER in the last five Week 2 matchups. Chicago is 0-4 ATS when playing at home after suffering a loss as the chalk. Redskins/UNDER.

San Francisco 49ers at Houston Texans: Houston is just 1-9 ATS as a preseason favorite of -3 or less, but is 6-0-1 to the OVER in the last seven Week 2 games.

My selection: take the 49ers +3 or less and OVER.
