There are a lot of ridiculous things about college football, but I can’t think of anything more ridiculous than No. 1 Alabama playing The Citadel.

Now, I don’t mean any disrespect to the lads of The Citadel, but there is no scenario under which the University of Alabama ought to be playing them in a sanctioned football game. And I don’t mean now, in the middle of the season. opening weekend “lambs led to slaughter” game for a big payday for the little guys program, or mid-August scrimmage where the cost of admission is a bar of soap.

I mean ever. Nothing good can come from this kind of game for either side (aside from a large check that The Citadel will get). When ‘Bama wins, who cares? It would be like Tiger Woods beating a one-armed blind man at golf, of course the one-armed blind man may have a shot at night with no lights. Why would you want risk anyone getting hurt in a farce game like this? And what of the risk to The Citadel players who are at every conceivable disadvantage?

No, I don’t like it one bit, but I have seen a line on the game, ALABAMA -51, take it or leave it.

If you followed me on Twitter last weekend, I was 4-0 in college football and 3-0 in the NFL. Now on to some picks for this weekend:

Saturday

Pittsburgh (-5) at Wake Forest: The Panthers are rolling, winning and covering their last three games, while averaging 40 ppg, Wake has gone 0-5 ATS in this situation play. PITTSBURGH

Virginia at Georgia Tech (-6.5): The Rambling Wreck, another team on a nice roll, winning and covering three in a row are looking for revenge from last year’s 40-36 loss at Virginia. GEORGIA TECH

Cincinnati (+7.5) at Central Florida: The noose tightens as UCF looks to stay unbeaten. The Bearcats will be ready to give them a tough game as the look for revenge from last year’s embarrassing home 51-23 home loss,. Take the points in what will be a barnburner. CINCINNATI

Syracuse (+10) vs. Notre Dame (At New York): The Orange can score in bunches and could catch the undefeated Irish looking ahead to the last game vs. USC in Los Angeles, This game will be played at Yankee Stadium and it is a take all the way. SYRACUSE

West Virginia (-5) at Oklahoma State: Just love the Mountaineers in this game. They have won and covered their last three games and are looking for revenge from last year’s 50-39 loss in Morgantown. They also catch OK State off huge game vs. Oklahoma last week. WEST VIRGINIA

Michigan State at Nebraska (+2): After watching the Michigan State-Ohio State game last weekend, all I can say is put a fork in the Spartans! Nebraska will be playing hard looking for a win as their season runs down and have gone 7-1 ATS the last eight vs. the Spartans. NEBRASKA

Iowa State (+3) at Texas: This is our trend game of the week. The Longhorns have gone a horrible 1-12 ATS after scoring 35 or more points (41 points last week) vs. a team looking for revenge, they beat Iowa State last year 17-7. IOWA STATE

Last week: 3-1-1

Season: 29-34-1
