There are a lot of ridiculous things about college football, but I can’t think of anything more ridiculous than No. 1 Alabama playing The Citadel.
Now, I don’t mean any disrespect to the lads of The Citadel, but there is no scenario under which the University of Alabama ought to be playing them in a sanctioned football game. And I don’t mean now, in the middle of the season. opening weekend “lambs led to slaughter” game for a big payday for the little guys program, or mid-August scrimmage where the cost of admission is a bar of soap.
I mean ever. Nothing good can come from this kind of game for either side (aside from a large check that The Citadel will get). When ‘Bama wins, who cares? It would be like Tiger Woods beating a one-armed blind man at golf, of course the one-armed blind man may have a shot at night with no lights. Why would you want risk anyone getting hurt in a farce game like this? And what of the risk to The Citadel players who are at every conceivable disadvantage?
No, I don’t like it one bit, but I have seen a line on the game, ALABAMA -51, take it or leave it.
If you followed me on Twitter last weekend, I was 4-0 in college football and 3-0 in the NFL. Now on to some picks for this weekend:
