Game 4 of NL Division Series: Dodgers Season On the Brink
The LA Dodgers have been looking up at the Giants almost all season. The two teams have been dancing around each other in the MLB like prizefighters all year. After the Giants won a tense 1-0 pitching duel in Game Three on Monday, the Dodgers find themselves one loss away from seeing their season end.
DeSclafani Has Struggled Against Dodgers
The Giants send Anthony DeSclafani to the mound to try to eliminate their rivals. DeSclafani is no stranger to the Dodgers. Tuesday’s game will be his seventh start against LA in 2021. Here are his numbers:
Six starts vs. LA … (0-3, 27 IP, 22 ER, 7.33 ERA)
DeSclafani has lost eight straight games against the Giants.
All Hands on Deck for LA
Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts has yet to announce his Game Four starter (as of 1 PM EST), but the team has announced that every pitcher is available except Game Three starter Max Scherzer.
If any team can succeed with all of their pitchers available, it’s the Dodgers, who led baseball with a 3.01 team ERA. They have good arms from all 12 spots available in G4.
Who will start? Walker Buehler on three days rest is the most likely choice, but don’t be surprised if Roberts opts for a bullpen start of sorts, and holds Buehler back as a stopper when and if the game gets tight.
How about David Price? He’s on the NLDS roster for, as Roberts says: “experience and versatility.” Could he be tapped to start Game Four, even if he just gives the team two innings? The 36-year old hasn’t started a game since August 22, but the veteran can put on his playoff face at any time. The lefty has pitched in four elimination games in his career.
Giants Don’t Mind SoCal
The Dodgers have lost only 24 games at Dodger Stadium in 2021, but seven of them have come against the Giants.
My Sports Betting Pick
The Dodgers stave off elimination with a big offensive outburst against Anthony DeSclafani. Take the over in Game Four.
