This week the wife and I traveled over to the west side of town to try Gina’s Bistro (4226 S. Durango Drive) just off Flamingo Road.

Now Gina’s is a little place that I pass every week heading over to do my weekly radio shows on Monday and Tuesday nights at the ESPN studio. I always see cars out front but have never stopped in.

Well, I’m sorry I waited so long because Gina’s is just amazing.

Because I’m Italian, when it comes to Italian food I am the toughest as a critic. 

My expectations are very high. We were able to get a table without a reservation around 6:30 p.m., but by 7:30 the place was packed. They only have a dozen tables so I highly recommend reservations.

We started our meal with an order of Bruschetta that we both enjoyed. My wife ordered their Insalata dell’Orto salad with their house Italian dressing, which she really liked.

For my entrée I ordered the Veal Saltimbocca, probably one of my absolute favorite dishes, but my standards are high when it comes to this dish as I have enjoyed it at restaurants all over the country. It’s always a good sign if minutes after ordering  you hear a pounding noise coming out of the kitchen.

Yes, that sound would be the chef pounding my fresh veal in preparation of the dish and that sound is music to my ears. I am happy to report the Veal Saltimbocca was fabulous and one of the top three places I have had it here in Las Vegas.

With it I ordered a side of Fettuccine with Meat Sauce. 

They make their own pasta fresh in house, which just makes it even better. I always like to order the meat sauce as I feel that is the true test of a restaurant’s sauce and I loved theirs.

I came pretty close not writing up Gina’s Bistro because it does have only the 12 tables and I wanted to keep this gem to myself. But I just couldn’t do that to our readers.

The best part about Gina’s is the very nice size portions and their reasonable prices.

In fact, the portion size caused us to pass on dessert, but I saw several go by my table I will be sure to save room for next time. Trust me, there will be a next time.

Just like their pastas, they make their desserts all in house. I saw some Cannoli and Tiramisu go by that looked heavenly. I like finding smaller places with great food and service.

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like here so I give Gina’s Bistro 3.75 Forks!
