This week, I made a stop to a place I had never been before.

I’ve been to the place next door hundreds of times, but never to GOAT Sports Bar, located at 3805 W. Sahara Ave. GOAT isn’t a big place but I can tell you the food is big on flavor as the food was way above your average bar offerings.

The wife and I stopped one night after a Golden Knights game. Their menu is more of a Tapas style (small plates) which is great when you want to try different things and share. Lori went with the Grilled Cheese and Tomato soup plate. The tomato soup was a creamy delight and the grilled cheese had three different cheeses. It sounds like such a simple dish, but it was so good as Lori was kind enough to let me sample it.

For my choice I asked the waiter what his favorite item was on the menu and without hesitation immediately said the Beef Sliders. Well I took his advice, and these were amazing. These were fresh ground patties topped with Swiss cheese, pickle, tomato, baby arugula, caramelized onions on a homemade bun. The sliders were outstanding, and the buns were so good.

I’ve said it many times in my column that mediocre bread or buns can ruin a great sandwich, but GOAT Sports Bar buns were great. So good that now I want to try their other sliders as they have BBQ Pork, Grilled Chicken, and a Katsu Chicken.

I couldn’t go into a new bar and not try their chicken wings. I will say right from the start that these are not your average wings. They call them KFC Wings but don’t confuse that with Kentucky Fried Chicken but rather Korean Fried Chicken. These wings were very crispy, which is exactly how I like my wings and are tossed in a Go Chu Jang sauce which they make in house. The sauce had a little kick to it but yet had a sweetness as well and they were excellent.

GOAT has DJ’s and Karaoke on different nights for your entertainment as well as video poker machines at the bar. This is a good bar to hang out and chill with friends or just grab a bite to eat.

The bartender was very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. I give GOAT Sports Bar a rating of 3.75 Forks.
