A couple of weeks ago as I drove down Boulder Highway I saw the Joker’s Wild marquee advertising IGT’s new Godzilla slot so I stopped in to check it out.

IGT’s Godzilla on Monster Island features a stand alone megajackpot bonus. It is has 40 lines on dual screens. But you only pay 30¢ a screen (60¢ for both screens). They actually give you 10 extra lines, which is a nice switch from paying an extra bet that so many of the new slots require to be eligible for the bonuses.

The bonus begins when a erupting volcanic island appears on each of the three center reels. You can activate the bonus on either or both of the screens.

At random points, “Mothra” flies on to the screen to add wild symbols or Godzilla appears to breathe fire on the base game to add wilds.

To begin the main bonus, Godzilla stomps out of the water to destroy Tokyo. The animation is spectacular—it spans both the top screen and the bottom one, so he’s REALLY big! The chair has built-in speakers, and rumbles convincingly when Godzilla does his thing.

As Godzilla enters Tokyo you must guide him through the city by using the arrow prompts to lead him straight ahead, to the right or to the left. Godzilla clears away that part of the city and you win the credit amount revealed under the rubble until you uncover a bonus.

During the Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla bonus the legendary monsters fight in an epic free-spins battle. Special screens appear with a sectioned bar at the bottom of the screen. When a Godzilla appears on the left screen he uses his atomic breath down on the right side of the bar and eliminates some of the sections. When MechaGodzilla appears on the right screen he breathes fire down on the left side of the bar and burns away sections. Whichever monster burns away his opponents section of the bar first is the winner. If Godzilla wins you get a bonus pick for an even bigger win.

In the Godzilla vs. the Military Bonus, you have five picks to try to destroy the six military weapons (tanks, cannons, missile launchers, etc.) displayed on the screen. Behind each weapon is a credit amount which you get to keep or a symbol saying you got all the targets plus one pick. If you get the all targets you earn all the amounts under the other targets plus add one to your picks, then move on to a second screen with different weapons and start picking again. If you get to the last screen, you win and get a victory bonus. Godzilla appears surrounded by helicopters and you pick his target to use his atomic breath in striking one of the helicopters. You win the amount revealed after the blast.

I put in $25 to make sure I could last till I got to a bonus. I played 60¢ to cover both screens. The base game paid pretty well. However on the lesser symbols you had to have four on a pay line instead of three. But the game was very generous with wilds and Mothra did its thing often leaving two or three reels wild. I got into the bonus when I was down to $18.62. I had Godzilla go straight, then right, then straight again twice before I hit a bonus (I uncovered 210 credits).

I started the Godzilla vs. the Military Bonus and got the all target plus one on the first pick and went to the next screen. I made it through all of the screens with a win of $37.40 and got to fight the helicopters. The helicopter I downed revealed a win of $25. So I ended up with a total bonus win of $62.40.

I played a while longer and got into the bonus again to play the Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla bonus. The MechaGodzilla won, but the free spins paid $27.80 so I was happy. I cashed out ahead $72.20.
