Stars Trends, News & Notes: Dallas Gets Its Captain Back
Benn, the Stars’ second-leading scorer in the regular season with 33 goals and 45 assists (78 points), hadn’t missed a game the past two seasons until his just-concluded two-game suspension.

Goalie Jake Oettinger, who has been yanked early from three playoff games this season, including Game 3 when he allowed three goals on the first five Vegas shots, has excelled during Dallas’ resurgence. He foiled 37 of 39 Knights shots in Game 4 and 27 of 29 in Game 5, giving him a save percentage of .941 the past two outings. In his other 15 playoff starts, his percentage was .894.
In league history, teams that have trailed 3-2 in a best-of-seven have won the series 21.1 percent of the time, per hockereference.com. That’s a considerably better percentage than what Dallas faced when it was down 3-0 (2 percent success rate in league history) or when trailing 3-1 (9.5 percent).
Dallas coach Pete DeBoer is on the verge of guiding a team in a Game 7 for the eighth time in his career. He has a record of 7-0 in those previous outings, including two while at the helm of the Golden Knights in 2020 and 2021 before losing his job after Vegas failed to make last year’s playoffs.
Dellandrea, the Stars’ hero on Saturday, had been a healthy scratch in Games 1 and 2 after going scoreless in five games the previous series vs. Seattle with a minus-4 rating.
VGK Trends, News & Notes: Is Adin Hill Going Cold?
Goalie Adin Hill, who had a 6-1 mark in the immediate aftermath of replacing injured Laurent Brossoit (lower body) in Game 3 in Round 2, has lost two in a row. On Saturday, he yielded four goals on 34 shots, all at even strength.
Vegas wasn’t penalized in Game 5 after averaging 16.4 minutes in the box its other 15 games.
Vegas had a road record of 26-7-8 in the regular season, marking the fewest regulation away losses of any team in the league, and it has gone 5-2 in the postseason, including its 3-2 OT loss in Game 4. Overall, counting the end of the regular season, the Knights have lost only once in regulation over its past 19 games away from their T-Mobile Arena.
Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy is attempting to reach the Cup Finals for the second time in five seasons. He was the bench boss of Boston in 2019 when the Bruins were beaten by St. Louis in seven games.

Stars vs. Golden Knights Prediction
The Stars not only are getting Benn back in the lineup, but fellow winger Evgenii Dadonov might also return after suffering a lower-body injury in that gruesome Game 3 defeat. He is listed as day-to-day.
Although it has been roundly acknowledged that Vegas has a better team overall, TV and radio analysts have recently been harping on Hill’s inability to corral rebounds, which has been giving the Dallas close-range scoring chances.
Forecast: Dallas gets one step closer to becoming the fifth team to overcome a 3-0 hole and win a series.
