Nothing beats a good breakfast to get a busy day started. And, as I have said many times in past articles, there is no shortage of great breakfast and lunch spots around Las Vegas. One such place is the quaint little Griddlecakes (9480 S. Eastern Avenue).

One of the best-selling items and my personal favorite is their Red Velvet Pancakes. They are fluffy, moist and will fill an entire plate for a big appetite. Griddlecakes takes a different approach with their Red Velvet Pancakes as they add chocolate chips then drizzle a strawberry sauce and sprinkle powered sugar over top for the finishing touch.

If I don’t get them as my meal I’ll at least add them with a breakfast combo. I will usually go with the eggs, bacon and pancake.

Another great choice here is their Chicken and Waffles. For $10.99 you can get their Belgian waffle and a chicken breast. This is a breakfast that will fill the heartiest of appetites. The chicken was very tasty while the waffle was cooked to a perfect golden brown.

Some of the specialties of the house are their Skillets where you get everything served hot and fresh. The Hobo Skillet is three eggs, sausage and onion served over home fries with cheese. It may look like a mess but it is a great tasting mess of flavor.

I haven’t been to Griddlecakes other than for breakfast, which is served all day. There is a full menu of sandwiches, wraps, salads and burgers for lunch time options. You can build your own burger for $9.99, which includes a 1/3 pound ground beef patty and your choice of two toppings. You can add avocado, mushroom, grilled onion, roasted red pepper, chili, bacon, egg, jalapeno or choice of cheese.

At many burger places roasted red peppers or an egg would be a premium topping and cost extra but not at Griddlecakes. If you want more than two, added extras are just 75 cents per topping. All of the sandwiches and burgers come with choice of salad, soup or French fries.

Because Griddlecakes is a smaller restaurant the staff is really friendly and attentive. If you are on the other side of town there is a second Griddlecakes location on 3200 N. Jones Boulevard. Personally, I have only been to the one Eastern location. I give Griddlecakes 3.50 forks.
