One of the great things about living in Las Vegas is the fact that we have some of the best restaurants in the world.
What’s also nice is having some of the best Happy Hours around, especially when you venture off the Strip. Locals know some of the best deals offered are during Happy Hour. You can eat very well – and cheap – if you know where to go.
Always on the lookout for a new place to try, my friend Jonathan had told me about the Happy Hour at Herbs & Rye (near the intersection of Valley View and Sahara).
Most places offer specials on drinks, appetizers and finger foods, which is great. At Herbs & Rye (3713 W. Sahara Ave.) they do more. The minute you walk in there is old school Vegas décor and that makes me happy before even sitting down.
During Happy Hour here they have drink specials like everywhere else, along with 50% off on selected appetizers, but that’s only the beginning. This restaurant’s signature dishes are their steaks and they pride themselves on hand cutting them right there in their kitchen.
So why am I telling you about their steaks when this article is about Happy Hours? Herbs & Rye has all their steaks on special during that magic hour so you can order them for 50% off. Happiness runs from 5-8 p.m. daily and then late night starting at midnight.
When you order a steak they will include one side. My buddy Cris and I both ordered the 18 oz. Ribeye. I went with the truffle mac n cheese as my side while Cris had the jalapeno creamed corn. We shared the side dishes and both were incredible.
The truffle mac n cheese may have been the best without lobster in it that I have had. The creamed corn was excellent as well but I have to admit I really didn’t get a lot of it. The waiter brought out the steaks; both were huge but one was clearly bigger.
They were perfect, full of flavor and would have been well worth the full price. Getting this kind of meal at half off was too good to pass up. These steaks were as good as most served at the finer steakhouses on the Strip at a fraction of the cost during happy hour.
The secret is out on this place because I was there on a Wednesday night at 5:30 and the place was packed. If you are on that side of town and it’s Happy Hour, I highly recommend heading over to Herbs & Rye.
You’ll thank me later. I give Herbs & Rye a rating of 3.75 Forks out of 4.
