SANTA ANITA
WILL TELL: Moved from a low profile barn into a top barn, got a huge jockey switch and was making his first start as a gelding. This all added up to a huge win by almost six lengths, crushing the odds-on choice in here. Look for the move up and another big effort. $$$
MANGITA: Just ran too well to lose in this mile turf race but got caught late by the 3/2 chalk, losing by a neck. She was claimed by the hot John Sadler who will have her spotted for the win next time out going long on the grass.
WEALTHY SHIPMAN: Was in from Canada and landed in the barn of Richard Baltas who sent her down the hill on the Santa Anita tricky 6½ furlong turf course. She ran big getting the win at 4/1. Really like this mare and she could repeat.
NICKNAME: This Grade-1 winning filly was in from Churchill Downs and is now in the barn of Richard Mandella who sent her down the hill for her first start on the West Coast and first on the grass. Being by Scatt Daddy she is bred to love the grass and ran big here, surging late to just miss on the line while blowing by the winner past the wire. She really wants longer so if we see her going a mile on the grass next time out we will be singling. $$$$$
CALLE KINGPIN, TROUBLEWITHATEE, FORTUNE OF WAR: These three finished 2-3-4 out of a tough mile maiden turf race. We would love to see them hook up again at a mile or longer on the grass. TROUBLEWITHATEE did not get a good trip and would be our key runner if we see these again running against each other.
ILIAD: Was exiting our HTW list and made quick, easy work of a five horse field in the Grade-2 San Vicente at 7 furlongs. He really ran like he wants longer and by Ghostzapper he should have no problem. Look for him to get some Kentucky Derby points next time out.
SELCOURT: 3yo maiden filly looked the pitcher in the paddock and was bet like the race was over, going off at 80 cents on the dollar. She won by nine lengths under a hand ride and could be any kind.
