REACH THE WORLD: Bob Baffert late bloomer for the Kentucky Derby just had a horrible trip in this 1-1/16 route as he broke in the air and was bumped. He then had to wait off heels when between runners on the second turn, came out into the stretch for running room and made a strong run to miss by a neck while more than five lengths clear of the rest. Lots to like with this colt. $$$$$
FAYPIEN: More riches for Baffert and this time it’s in the filly division as this first time starter was going 5½ furlongs in her debut. Was really ice cold on the board for a Baffert runner going off at almost 12/1 odds. She made a nice late run and has the looks of a filly who wants longer.
DENMAN’S CALL: This was a nice reward for those of you who follow this column as he was on our HTW list. He came back in this spot to win by a length, paying $35.40. We will keep this one on our list.
GLACIER: Got back on the grass and won this mile turf race going away under Bejarano. This guy will move up going long on the grass with winners next time out; he looks like a repeater.
AMERICAN PASTIME, CASCADE KID, COLONIST, BIRD ORR BRADY: These four exit the same maiden race and we think it could turn out to be a key one. AMERICAN PASTIME won the race by four lengths and looked very special doing it first out of the box. CASCADE KID finished a solid second first out for Hollendorfer 2½ lengths clear of COLONIST, the stablemate of CASCADE KID. BIRD ORR BRADY finished fourth after breaking from post 10 and showing some moxie in his debut race for Doug O’Neill. We will be using all four when they return. $$$
