SANTA ANITA

PASSION FOR PAPA: Was coming off a layoff for trainer Palma and ran her heart out only to get nailed on the line by a first time starter who she was giving seven pounds to. This filly was more than four lengths clear of the rest in this 11 horse field and will be a solid play next out.

SPIN ME A KISS: Just love this filly going off at more than 10-1 for trainer D’Amato. She was gunned from the gate by Maldonado and just got caught by the 2-1 chalk, losing by a nostril while 4½ lengths clear of the rest. Single all the way next time out. $$$

SETTLE DOWN EILEEN: Was coming off the layoff for Spawr and making her first start as a 3yo. She ran a great race but was no match for the 7/5 favorite Baltas. But Eileen was clearly second best more than four lengths clear of the rest. She needs a little pace up front to get the job done next out as Eileen is sitting on the maiden score.

ALSATIAN: Was exiting our HTW list but broke slow and was forced out into the first turn losing valuable ground. He came out for room leaving the second turn and made a three wide run into the stretch. Finished with courage just missing the place by a neck and the win by ¾ of a length. He may have been best and we will keep him on our next out win list.

ESKENFORANDREYA: Battled tooth and nail from the bell in this mile dirt race for $20k maiden fillies and mares only to lose late while more than seven lengths clear of the rest. She may need a stronger jockey next out, so lf we get a jock change we will be firing.

FORTUNE OF WAR: Was bumped into the first turn and six wide into the stretch but Gary Stevens kept him going down the lane, finishing a solid second behind the odds-on winner. This one should get the maiden score next out going long on the grass.

PELLUCID: This will be our HTW of the week. This Simon Callaghan shipper was making her first start in the States. She lacked room when boxed in along the fence for the entire drive down the lane and just missed the show dough. You can bet Bejarano, if he rides this filly back, will not let that happen next out going down the hill at a mile on the grass. $$$$$
