SANTA ANITA

MARCKIE’S WATER: Just a great effort in the Snow Chief at 1-1/8 on the grass. Marckie’s Water was breaking from the 10 post and lost much ground when five wide as he broke on top. After a wide trip he dropped back to 7th, then made a strong late run to win going away in what was a super effort with Joe Talamo riding. Look for the repeat next time out. $$$

SWIRLING: Was my GamingToday play of the week, and this first time starter with the hot riding bug boy Roman aboard for trainer John Sadler won like a good thing going down the hill, paying a nice $9.40. Look for her to be able to beat winners in a claim proof starter allowance race.

IRISH GOODBYE: Trainers know when they have a horse ready to fire a big shot. And when good trainers know, they usually go to a jockey who can get the job done. Keith Desormeaux usually goes to his brother Kent and he did that with this colt when sending him down the hill in this $50k maiden claimer. He went from last to first to win going away. Note the layoff and jockey change to his brother.

PRIVY: First time starter for Sadler had been working with a purpose and was bet down to the 6/5 chalk. She was crushed on both sides leaving the gate then was hustled up to force the pace. Got to the front but was run down late by another first time starter. This filly will be a solid single next time out.

FARHAAN: Up and comer was working great for the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile but was squeezed back leaving the gate and dead last until the top of the lane when Prat unleashed him. He scorched home to somehow get up for the place, just missing the win by ¾ of a length in a race he may have been best. More good stuff coming from this guy down the road. $$$$$

SPEAKERS: First time starter for Paddy Gallagher with Bejarano riding got off at 10-1. This filly ran great despite breaking tardily in this mile turf race. The longer the better next time out.
