GOING FOR A SPIN: Very consistent girl just missed by a head in this mile turf race. She was claimed by Jerry Hollendorfer and could head North for some turf racing. No matter where Jerry runs her we will be betting.
ITALIAN RULES: Just never runs a bad race and crushed this very good field of allowance runners by more than three lengths. We will keep him on our HTW list as he remains a solid play first and second in the exotics. Usually a fair price.
NAVY SEAL SIX: Was coming off a layoff for trainer Kristin Mulhall, he showed good early speed. Got caught down on the inside and had to be steadied hard when in tight going into the turn. Looked like that would cost him the race, but he battled back and won going away by ¾ of a length in a big try. This gelding runs like he really likes this cushion surface and could repeat.
CAUSEITHERTZ: Has really come to life here winning his second straight race in game fashion. Highly regarded by trainer Baffert, who did not give up on him after several straight losses last year. He has found the secret. $$$
BELLA VIAGGIA: I will take a dish of Linguini with clams please. This filly ran huge at first asking in this straight maiden race finishing a game second behind the 9/5 winner while a length clear of the rest in this 11 horse field. This girl has the looks of a real runner and will be hard to beat next time out. $$$$$
LIVING OUR DREAM: Had her number taken down when drifting out late in the stretch as the bug boy Eswan Flores was DQ and Rosario got put up for the win. This filly will come back and redeem herself next time out for her new connections.
SKY CAPE: Ran a winning race at 10-1, but just could not run down the lone 3-2 speed in here. Finished a game second and will be a good play next time out. The price will be right again.
SPUD SPIVENS: Just adores this Hollywood cushion surface as witnessed by this win as he got off at 5-1. Trainer Henry Moreno doesn’t win many nowadays, but this gelding could come right back and give him another.
GOLDEN GATE FIELDS
BENICIA SEA BREEZE: Really looked good breaking her maiden at this bottom level. She has the looks of a filly that could get a lot better. Top trainer John Martin claimed her for the 8k and will have her spotted for a repeat win in a quick return on his investment. $$$
SPUN CLEAR: Was in from Oaklawn Park for trainer Jeff Bonde. She ran a winning race, but just failed to hold off the even money favorite. Had to settle for second more than three lengths ahead of the rest.
