(NOTE: Del Mar closes on Wednesday, Sept. 5. Fairplex opens the following day and Santa Anita begins Wednesday, Sept. 26.)

MORNING FOG: Bill Morey shipper ran huge, losing by a neck after being steadied between horses in the early going and getting in tight a half mile out. Made a four wide run home only to lose by a dwindling neck as probably the best.

HOMBRE HUGHES: This one may show up at Fairplex for trainer Bonde, who brought him in from the New Orleans area. He ran huge in this 10k claimer going off at 11-to-1 despite bobbling at the start and being steadied hard after being squeezed between horses. He came on late finishing second more than two lengths clear of the rest in this 11 horse field.

SACRED DELIGHT: First time starter really took the cash in this straight maiden race. It was one of those typical Gomez rides, getting her squeezed back at the start and then getting in tight into the turn losing all chance. She did make a nice late run finishing a clear fourth, beaten by 1½ lengths. Was probably best with a clean trip. I would suggest trainer Kruljac make a jockey change.

CONGREGATIONALIST: Was making his second start off the layoff and really ran a winning race at 24-1 when battling tooth and nail with the 6-5 chalk. After the winner drew away down the lane he came back and was gaining at the end with every stride. Lost by ¾ of a length in what was a big time effort. $$$

LEVEL HEADED: Was being stretched out on the grass by the hot training Tom Proctor. This filly ran a big race battling from the bell head-to-head, nose-to nose. Just could not hold off the fast closing winner, but had enough left to hold second by ¾ of a length. Next time if able to clear early she will be gone! $$$$$

SURELY SWIFT: Stumbled at the start and was next to last in this mile race. He came out on the second turn and went wide into the stretch just missing the show dough by less than a length. This one looks ready to break his maiden next time out with a good start.

TRUE EXPECTATIONS: Was in from Calder for trainer Mike Mitchell, who had this girl cranked up for the win. She broke slow and then had to wait off heels behind a horse who was being eased. Came out for room and finished fast, but missed by a ½ length. This girl will make no mistakes next time out. $$$$$

LUCKY MOMENT: Really never got untracked in here, but look for a big rebound next time out at a price.

HAZARDOUS: First time starter ran like a pro after breaking last. He offered a quick bid and cruised by the rest, romping home by more than five lengths. Will repeat!
