SANTA ANITA

SULTRY SEASON: Trainer David Hofmans doesn’t send out many first time starters. When he does they usually are not cranked for a win first out of the box. This filly exploded down the lane winning by nearly 9 lengths while under a long hold by jockey Joe Talamo. Don’t know if the connections thought this filly could run this good as she was in for a 30k tag. Look for her to find a starter allowance race in the near future.

PLENNY OF HENNY: Would have won on any other day, but had the misfortune of meeting a very live Bob Baffert comebacker who decided to take off the pace. Henny still may have been best as he was in a perfect spot down on the inside. The jock, knowing he had horse underneath him, did not want to risk trouble and took him on a four wide run. Had to angle out wider for room in upper stretch as he surged late to just miss.

MISS WELL MOLDED: Was most likely best in this mile turf race, but had to be steadied hard off heels into the first turn and came out for room into the stretch. Made a wide run as she rallied through the final furlong just missing by a dwindling neck. You could see her trainer Paddy Gallagher was very unhappy.

TIZ FLIRTATIOUS: Marty Jones trainee was making her first start on the grass. This very consistent filly ran huge coming from last to first, drawing at the wire in a big time performance. She can route and sprint. We will come right back with another big race. $$$$$

DOINGHARDTIMEAGAIN: Had speed down on the inside, but the jock in what was a good move took her back leaving the first turn. Came out  alongside a rival to duel for the lead and inched away midway on the turn. Fought it out till the end losing a gallant battle to the favorite as she was more than five lengths clear of the rest. $$$

SEGWAY: Looked to have a big shot in this mile turf race, but he was bumped and steadied hard at the start. Was off last and far back. Managed to split the field, but never could get into the real racing after the early trouble. We will give him a big shot to rebound next time out at what will be a good price. $$$
