GREELEY AWESOME: Would have won on any other day but just could not run down the even money John Sadler horse. Greeley was gaining on him at the wire just losing by a length while more than eight clear of the rest of the field. This one will be a solid single in the picks next time out at this 30k maiden claiming level.

NEWFOUND GOLD: Is improving with every start as he has found his right level here in Southern California. Bejarano had him in a perfect spot but he just could not get to the 6/5 winner while between horses. He ran on willingly and should pop next time out. Ready to win at this 32k claiming level.

Z BIG APPLE: 2yo with the connections of Zayat Stables and Bob Baffert look to have a strong contender on the road to Derby 2013. This colt was bet like a winner and won like a good thing despite the fact that he was reluctant to lead. Got in tight off heels from the half mile post until past midstretch. Having to be steadied on the bend, he stayed down on the inside. Won under a hand ride and long hold late by Bejarano as he could have gone around the track again. This was a 5 star performance by a first time 2yo who looks to be the real deal. I will make a future bet as soon as John Avello at Wynn puts them up. I just hope he doesn’t read this article. $$$$$

SOMENCHANTD EVENIN: Was best in here as she was steadied hard between horses leaving the first turn. That cost here as she had to drop back losing two positions. She came on strong down the lane and was gaining with every stride, but lost by a nostril.

POGONIP: Had been waiting for this filly since Del Mar. The wait was well worth it as she gunned home with ease in her first turf try, winning by more than three lengths. This girl will come back in style next time if trainer Gaines keeps her on the grass. We will follow. $$$

HEY COWBOY: Just came out of the gate flat footed and was far back. Once in stride on the second turn she was forced wide to the far far outside looking for racing room. She came home like a freight train while full of run. Missed by a half length while flying by the winner past the wire. $$$

CENTRAL HEAT: Took a shot with this Unusual Heat filly and she paid $36.40 if you were on line at and logged into my daily release column. This filly will come back in a starter allowance race and repeat.

THIS IS MY DAY: Was best in this mile 4k claimer, but just had a horrible trip. He was shuffled back on the second turn while in heavy traffic. Once clear he came on strong missing by a neck.
