(opens Wednesday, Dec. 26)

RUBYSANDPEARLS: Was in from Calder for trainer Peter Miller and really put in a good effort when bet down to the post time favorite. Ruby failed to hold off the big longshot and was beaten at the wire. This race will sit him up perfectly for an early win at Santa Anita.

MARY FILDES: The girl was set for a winning effort on the grass but the rains came and had to run on the goofy wet surface as the race was taken off the grass. She lagged last but put in a good late run finishing third. Will be in the winner’s in the very near future when she finds a turf race. $$$

PRIMED AND READY: Looked just that in this 7 furlong race but he was bumped at the start and was dead last in this 12 horse field. He was taken widest of all for the stretch. When five wide came fastest of all down the lane but had too much ground to make up in what was a winning effort. No mistakes next time out. $$$$$

LETTHEPARTYBEGIN: Reared at the start and lost any shot she had in this 20k maiden claimer. She never got into the race after the bad break. We will give her a big shot to rebound next time out.

HALF DOME DUDE: Really never got untracked in here until it was too late. Made a good late effort that will have him set for a big run at Santa Anita.

ENGLISH RHYTHM: 3yo filly’s best races have been on the grass and trainer Kristin Mulhall looked to have her perfectly spotted for the win. Then the rains came and the race was moved to the main track.  Mulhall decided to scratch her, which was a good idea instead of wasting a race on a track she could not win on. Look for this filly to be spotted for the win next time out going long on the grass.

WILD MEDIA: First time starter out of the barn of Bruce Headley ran a huge race, finishing a game third despite being crowded between horses early and having to take back. He ran on, just missing the place by a head while almost four lengths clear of the rest. $$$$$

ASHLEY’S BAMBINO: Another who looked all set for the win on the grass but was left on the main in this straight maiden race. He ran an OK third and will be set next time out going long on the green.

BLACK WITCH: Bob Baffert first time starter ran a monster race finishing second by a dwindling ¾ of a length. Broke slow and had to be steadied hard when between horses in the early going. She made a big five wide run and came home fast despite drifting in a little at the finish. The filly has a big future and will be a solid single next time out. $$$$$

PANDA BAI: Was very unlucky to lose this 5 ½ furlong 8k maiden claimer. She was crowded in deep stretch which cost her the race, losing by a head. She will be very hard to beat next time out.
