SANTA ANITA

CHICO SUERTE: Really had a goofy trip as he settled nicely between horses on the outside. He then went between horses leaving the backstretch, but had to be steadied hard and taken back on the second turn losing a lot of ground. He came out on the turn and motored six wide to finish a solid second almost three lengths clear of the rest in this 10 horse field. $$$$$

MALIBU HONEY: First time starter for Bob Baffert was bet like a good thing in this 75k maiden claimer and won like the money at 9/5 despite having a case of the lugs in the final furlong. Top trainer John Sadler says fit to put up the 75k so we will see fit to bet this filly right back.

BLUSHING MARTHA: Displayed big early speed in this mile turf race, but tired down the lane and had to settle for fourth. She was claimed out of this effort by Jeff Mullins and will be well prepared next time out to get the win.

DISTANT IMAGE: Exits the same race as Blushing Martha and finished in a dead heat for fifth. Image ran a deceptively good race, which will insure a good price next time out for her new connections and a major jockey change.

PERFECT SET: Was coming off the layoff for trainer Richard Mandella and ran a huge race at 13/1 despite being steadied hard when squeezed between horses at the start. He made a big five wide run into the stretch and came on fast to pick up the show dough with the low profile F Prat in the irons. $$$

ZEE BROS: First time starter for Baffert was even money as they bet this colt like the race had already been run. He showed early speed while battling tooth and nail with the winner Salutos Amigos, who we will also be watching for next time out. Zee could not handle Amigos, who drew away down the stretch more than five lengths clear of the rest.

SPIT BALL/PRIZED BY BUCK/PRIDE OF SILVER: All three of these exit the same race with Spit Ball winning, Prized by Buck second and Pride of Silver third by more than three lengths. We like all three of these next time out. If they happen to show up in the same race, it will be exotic time.

YANKEE REBEL: Was last seen winning by a nostril at Del Mar last July. He came back in this 80k optional claimer and ran a huge race going wide down the hill. If he doesn’t bounce will be one tough Rebel next time out. $$$$$

COCONUT CREAM PIE: Had been waiting for this filly as she was scratched the last time she was entered. She was bet down to 5/2, but I was singling. Ran her race, but just did fail to chase down the lone speed by a dwindling neck. There will be no mistakes next time out. $$$

GUEST STAR: A slow start cost this one the win as he broke next to last and had to rush up to get the lead. He just failed to last by less than a length, but was a clear second and will be hard to beat next time out.
