HOLLYWOOD PARK

(DEL MAR opens July 17)

CHIEF COCHISE: Chased off the rail and then three deep on the turn. He got fanned very wide into the stretch to lose all shot at the win but kept running.  Just missed the place money by a dwindling head. Will be ready for his diploma at Del Mar.

DISTANT IMAGE: Was pulling his jockey Julien Leparoux out of the saddle, but he kept hold of the filly on this speed favoring surface. She split rivals on the turn and came three wide into the stretch. Could only muster midpack as she could not make up any ground late. She will be ready for the win next out and the price will be right. $$$

MR. FITZRAMATHORN: Broke slow and not was not a good thing the way the course was playing. He went up between horses and chased the lone speed just off the rail. Found the rail on the turn and stayed there into the stretch. Picked up the place money, but had no shot at catching the runaway lone speed. He will get the win at Del Mar next out.

FEAR THE BEARD: Looked ready to win with all the early speed in this race, but two of the speed horses got scratched late and that compromised this one’s chances. He ran big battling it out for the place money while down on the rail. Will be ready to win next out. $$$

ACHILLES: Had the same misfortune as Fear The Beard who he ran a nose behind. We would love to see these two come back in the same race in their next starts. It will be tri time.

STOLE A KISS: 2yo first time starter out of the Mike Puype barn took some money in this race. She broke in and was bumped at the start. Split rivals into the stretch and again in midstretch. Was really running down the lane when catching her best stride late. This filly looks to want to go longer than this 5 furlong race. If she gets some extra distance next time out we will be playing.

BRANDING: I tweeted this one out in this race. She was let go at 11-1 and may have gotten there, but had to stop on a dime when between the winner (who made it through) and a riderless horse. We will be all over this one next time outgoing long. $$$$$

SELLERIA: Likely would have won this race on most days but could not run down the lone speed, which opened up four lengths and held late. With some pace to run at next time out we will see the girl in the winner’s circle.

TAMARANDO: First t time starter was down on the rail trying to run on late. With the speed holding, she could not close the ground in this 5 furlong sprint. This colt looks to be a runner who wants longer. We will play if he gets some extra distance next time out.
